She looks more interested now that Cruz is talking.

(52 posts)You would think that someone in her life would have suggested getting some voice training...considering all the public speaking. Sort of like Cruz, too.
pazzyanne
(6,557 posts)Rabrrrrrr
(58,352 posts)she has to come across as though she knows what she's talking about without taking the risk that any of the men will think she's teaching them, so she has to have a non-authoritative voice - and yes, it's quite annoying. She doesn't quite have that feminine lilt of making every sentence sound like a question, but she often comes really close to it.

(182,879 posts)That was to Sen. Lee. He actually stopped talking and asked her a question and she answered Yeah. My wife and I just looked at each other like 😮

(4,554 posts)My strategy on the Repukes time: mute, do stuff around the house
My strategy on Barretts voice: concentrate on the substance.
Her voice is really annoying and I keep reminding myself that I will probably not hear it again after this week.
This is all so historical and so infuriating.
And I hate the way she admonishes the Democratic Senators when she has just decided shes had enuf. Although I do think someone counseled her at the first break today. She was very obviously being evasive to Dems and respectful to Repukes. After that break she softened a bit.
Mira
(22,380 posts)but since she says the same nothing burger thing each time I just mute it. Her voice is unpleasant and makes nonsensical words out of itself, so why listen to her?

(351 posts)Sounds like a pubescent little smart ass. No gravitas, whatsoever! The antithesis of what I would expect from a judge. I can't imagine having to sit through an entire college course with her as the professor.
I didn't think of that! That would have been enough to change my major!!!

(9,090 posts)pushed forward - like all those stations yelling about some poor bigotted asshole who was forced to bake a cake for a gay couple etc, or businesses who had to 'cater' to 'guys in dresses' etc
republicon radio is not only the only unique advantage they have it is very vulnerable merely because democrats merely have to stop ignoring it and the cons will freak out, advertisers will head for the hills and the ad industry will have to break up the monopoly to be able to use those stations
right now anyone who gets any one of any of the 87 universities or pro sports teams to announce they will stop broadcasting games on republican trump putin talk radio stations (100s rely on those associations to normalize their hate and lies) will be starting that exodus and the eventual destruction of the rw monopoly - they will all have to follow or admit their support for trump

(5,812 posts)Do not expand...reduce...last on, first off!
I wonder if one can do that? I am betting if we have House the Senate and the WH, since the size of SCOTUS is determined by fed law and not the Const...pass a new law. Six, or maybe five??? LOL
Thanks for posting!

(7,728 posts)TruckFump
(5,812 posts)It is now set at 9. If we have the House, the Senate and the WH, we can change the law. The federal govt sets the size of the court.
What is interesting, if it is appealed and the new law reduces the size to, let's say 6, the last 3 added most likely could not participate in the appeal -- conflict of interest IMO.
The last three added to the court are: GORSUCH, BOOF BY, AND MOST LIKELY, THE HANDMAIDEN.

(27,572 posts)No accusations of packing. Just roll away all of Trump's appointments.
We may need to seriously expand Federal judiciary.

(1,648 posts)To Air this entire clip that actually does their job for them and has already been researched and reporter by sources Senator Whitehouse credentialed. News Networks do a disservice to their viewers by keeping this from them and those networks begin with these:
CBS
NBC
ABC
CNN
MSNBC
Even the Republican Propaganda - FUX NEWZ (Fox News Frauds)
Who among these networks have the patriotism and testicular fortitude to air the clip and/or even expand further on what Senator Whitehouse put in the record?
Hell, you could even make it into a investigative news program of what dirty politicians, secret identities, and big mystery money have been up to in Washington to screw over your viewers and strip their rights away.
Americans should have great disdain and demand their primary news networks air this entire explanation about what has been going so wrong with this country for years, and it is going to become increasingly worse with Americans being stripped of their rights. The big social issues are primarily a distraction to take all eyes off other cases that further erode the rights of Citizens in the United States and hell is coming with it.

(31,893 posts)Our corporate-owned news media fails utterly at presenting the actual truth of how and by whom our country is actually run.
Which is, in itself, the primary evidence of the rule by the monied class that goes unremarked upon. Instead, the general public remains totally ingnorant of the true cause of their suffering - which, in turn, leaves them subject to manipulation and misdirection of their anger.

(2,626 posts)If I were the nominee I'd probably just withdraw about now as Whitehouse has clearly shown I'm only there as a pawn due to my ultra conservative beliefs, my willingness to obey and cooperate. A mere puppet used by the hierarchy to meet their own nefarious plans and nothing more. My opinions are only meaningful in that they meet the party line.
But she won't, because she won't be able to let go of the idea that her own ability and hard work have gotten her to this position. She will not be able to embrace the fact that she is merely looked upon as an obedient puppet, subservient to those deemed her betters; the men in power around her that she, in her religious programming believes must be obeyed simply by virtue of their gender.

(36,133 posts)How the corporate political machine has capture the Court, Elections, Regulatory Agencies and worst of all, the Civil Jury.
Excerpt at the end:
"if you believe that the world needs America...then it matters that we get climate change right -- even when the conflict pits "We thePeople" against mighty corporations...We will be held to account: a democracy ... that could not rouse itself to do what was required. Failing to lead at this moment of necessity will soon and long darken the lamp America holds up to the world ... We must not be the generation that failed...
... historian David McCullough reminded us that when those men [the Founding generation] pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to this cause, it was not mere words. When they signed the Declaration of Independence,he said, they were signing their own death warrants...it was a courageous time. It just takes courage to make this our own courageous time."

In any case she lived there for several years. I've lived in South Bend myself and they mostly have the Chicago accent around there. The same accent is heard all over Michigan, northern Indiana and upper Illinois. Variations of it can be heard in Wisconsin and Minnesota as well.
