(47,649 posts)I know if my oxygen level goes into the eighties and if I don't stop and focus on my breathing, I can reach a point where I could end up in the hospital. It can all happen so fast and the thought of ending up in the hospital again is motivation enough for me to monitor my oxygen. One time a couple years ago, I lost consciousness and woke up three days later in the ICU. Fortunately, I'd called 911 first, though I have no memory of it.
I can manage this for the most part and the oximeter has been an important tool in that process.

(47,649 posts)The risk of being exposed to COVID is a very real threat for anyone with breathing problems. Perhaps a tele-visit with a physician might help though. Meanwhile, if you can get an oximeter that would help you report your progress with your doctor. Then let a doctor tell you whether you should go to the ER or not. He/she might be able to prescribe medication for you which could help you get through this without exposing yourself to unnecessary risks, at least until you get your test results.

(12,712 posts)Check the research for D3 and melatonin in regards to immunity and impact on the cytokine storm. It is up to you to check out the potential and reason for taking them.
You want to lessen both the severity of symptoms and long-term negative impact on your health.
It takes time for your blood serum levels of D3 to get to a certain point, (since you already have it) but it certainly won't hurt to take at least 3-5,000 IU for a good while and it still may lesson the severity. It has a very low toxicity and so does melatonin, so it is safe.
Also, you may have noted they gave the Orange Covidbomb, both as a part of his treatment along with zinc and other things.

(6,682 posts)Im thinking of you. I was really sick and stubbornly didnt get tested for 7 days after symptoms showed up. Had to wait 3 days. The waiting was hard.
I do these breathing exercises regularly even now, though Im not sick. I also take melatonin, zinc, vit D, and Pepsid. The supplements have anecdotal stories of being of some help.

(7,876 posts)When I had COVID, I made sure to use this technique at least once a day, with some days doing it several times. When you do it correctly, you almost feel like you are really breaking up congestion or "clearing yourself out" somewhat. My oxygen levels dipped when I had COVID -- anywhere from high 80s to low 90s -- but I never felt out of breath and I didn't end up needing hospitalization (thank goodness).

(13,783 posts)... respiratory distress. The initial treatment is the same. You don't have to have COVID to call your doctor.
If you're admitted to the hospital, they'll probably give you two 15 minute (85% accurate) tests in a row. That gives you the highest possible reliability.

I never had breathing problems, but be prepared for that fever spike. Scared me quite a bit at the time.

(34,135 posts)go to the hospital. Stop posting here and DO NOT take your left over prednisone until you get clearance from a Doctor. You may have to wait for a while for the sicker people to go first but if you get sicker they can help you, this website cannot.

(58,785 posts)Wishing you all the best and remembering that quacking ourselves is never that. I was in your position in late May while the first big spike was calming.
Fever, some difficulty breathing, that dry Covid cough, chest pain with breathing, and a chest x-ray suggestive of possible blood clot. All completely unusual for me
But our rural community hospital had already mostly emptying out, beds no longer in the halls big difference. I was admitted to a Covid ward really believing that was probably it, and transferred out when I tested negative. My first pneumonia ever, but then pneumonia is also a Major killer, Most deaths from covid and flu related to pneumonia. three days of intravenous anabiotics and then discharge to finish.
This is the kind of thing I want to hear of for you, Or better than yet that the ER triage people decided you could be best treated at home. Remember, the hospitals are going not going to become less busy for a long while.

(2,361 posts)Prednisone is a steroid so it ramps down your immune system, but you need your body to fight this. Doctors prescribe steroids later on after the virus is gone but the immune system is still ramped up.

DU is not a good place for a diagnosis but a good place to get support which is NOT what a person needs if they are really, truly sick.
