Does anyone else find her manner and voice fake with a flavor of disingenuous attitude?

(21,615 posts)You know shes part of a handmaid cult and the voice just adds to the creepiness vibe she gives off. Its like shes a character in a horror novel.
Plus, shes an awful liar.

(3,112 posts)It irritates me too! It's staccato, detached, unemotional, robotic... stop me if I'm going on. Oh wait, it's devoid of warmth and empathy too. Actually, the computerized voice coming out of my smart speaker sounds more human.

(51,308 posts)Usually they lose it after 20s and 30s. I hate to say it, but Blasey-Ford had that voice type too.
I hate it. I dont remember that being a thing amongst grown women when I was younger.

(53,214 posts)considering what all is at stake. I don't care for her voice, but if she wasn't the Supreme Court nominee chosen by Donald Trump, I probably wouldn't notice it too much. I will say that she's handled herself with more poise and dignity than the whiner Brett Kavanaugh, though she has looked rather miserable most of the time.
Of course, it isn't her voice or her "crazy" eyes that bother me, it is her ultra conservative credentials. She could sound like Mickey Mouse, I wouldn't care as long as she was a reasonable and fair jurist, who didn't appear to have an agenda.
PatSeg
(53,214 posts)her voice rather reminds me of a British actress, Shirley Henderson. IMDB describes her voice as "Soft, raspy, squeaky, childlike voice".

(53,214 posts)but I wasn't prepared to judge her on that. Admittedly, it would be hard to sit and listen to that voice for a long time, but clearly that isn't the primary problem we have with her. Frankly, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's voice really irritates me, even though I usually agree with what she is saying. I'm beginning to understand why Hollywood sends actors to voice coaches, some voices just don't work for public speaking.
There are a few contributors on MSNBC who I can only listen to for a few minutes. I often hit fast-forward when they come on. I know people can train themselves to talk differently - lower the pitch or get rid of the collegiate vocal fry or speak from the gut, instead of the throat.
Well, I've heard enough of Barrett for one day. I'm afraid now that voice is stuck in my head.

(171,710 posts)it does not take much research to find out she is a repuke hack - heck, just her admiration for Scalia makes that clear
I already knew how I felt about her considering what all we knew, especially her admiration of Scalia. And what is it with republicans trying to Reaganize Scalia, like he was some kind of conservative saint? Once they are dead, conservatives automatically transform into unrecognizable super heroes.
I just feel too many people were focusing on her voice, which though annoying, was not disqualifying. And then there were the comments about the EYES, crazy eyes like Michele Bachmann. These are superficial attacks and distract from what the real issues with her are. I do understand it though. Democrats are understandably upset with this nomination, especially after McConnell's stunt in 2016. Everything annoys the crap out of us.

(6,630 posts)but today I am watching the hearing on the Washington Post online and seeing her facial expressions has made me hate her voice. So, for me it is not her voice alone, but the sort of smug way that she looks and the haughty demeanor while pretending to be deferential.
it does really make a difference watching her as she speaks. Its not just one thing, it is the whole package.
