I've dealt with "holier than thou," yet barely qualified (or fully unqualified) and thus insecure women being promoted to push the agendas of the men in power all my life. She is the epitome of it. Many a woman professional fights the urge to conclude that women can be (and often are) our worse enemies in the workplace as a result.

But yeah, I do think there is some deeply rooted racism in her makeup as well. She tried to appear more pleasant with Corey Booker (and hell he is so personable, why wouldn't you?), but her condescension came through there too.

She had a condescending tone against the Senators who weren't afraid to hammer her with tough questions and statements, such as Harris and Amy Klobuchar. On the other hand, Dianne Feinstein, Chris Coons, and Cory Booker were super nice to her and are all very personable, so she was not condescending towards them. I'm not criticizing these three Senators in any way. They are incredibly good human beings, and have reached out towards the aisle many times.

Harris and Klobuchar on the other hand are no nonsense/no-BS type Senators. They are great debaters and don't sugar-coat things with Republicans. They know they are their adversaries, and don't want to be friends with them.

You may not have experienced that particular rone and demeanor from white women, but I have - many many times - and so have other black women.

Not to say you haven't gotten shade from white women, but it may have been couched differently because of your gender. But black women recognized it from Barrett immediately.

I live in a mostly white area too, so it can be tough. Anyway, in this instance, she gave the same tone to Amy, so she was consistent. She did not give that tone to Booker, Coons, or Feinstein, because they were exceptionally nice to her. Not to say Harris was at fault, just saying that she's a total no-BS type person, as is Amy. They don't pretend to be friends with Republicans.

Her manner toward Kamala was distinctly different than it was to any of the other white women or men speaking to her. And it wasn't because they were "nicer" to her than Kamala was. And her manner was different than it was with Amy.

I am certain you have experienced lots of racism from white women. Most black people have. But black women are treated differently than black men or white women are. We know it when we see it.

My husband said her voice was like “fingernails on a chalkboard,” & neither of us wanted to have this performance on until we were sure it was over, so I just clicked in and out during the day with the mute on, hoping for a break.

Barrett is about as bad as she possibly can be, then.

She follows in the footsteps of nominations/appointments to the SCOTUS by the GOP that are blisteringly insulting to the intelligence of any thinking American — like filling Thurgood Marshall’s vacancy with Clarence Thomas. Now they’re going to fill Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s vacancy with this appalling creature.

That’s a helluva legacy.
