Is it governor appointment? Or is there a special election? Who is most likely going to be her replacement in the US Senate? Who would you want?
If it's an appointment, I want Rep. Adam Schiff. If it's a special election, I want Rep. Adam Schiff to win. I want Schiff in the US Senate.

(46,036 posts)He'd make an excellent Senator. I'm ashamed to admit I don't know how it's done. If it's the governor, I'm sure Newsom will do a good job.

(35,433 posts)She's going to donate some of that to other Dems. I'd like to see her hang onto any extra cash and use it for a senate run. Replace DiFi.

(14,958 posts)IIRC the appointment lasts until the next congressional election year, which means 2 years, which is when the term is up anyway. So normal Senate election in 2 years.

(29,199 posts)but my desire is to see katie porter take that seat which takes katie out of her crap ass district.
Schiff can run for difi's seat when she retires

https://www.ppic.org/publication/california-voter-and-party-profiles/
Whites make up only 41% of Californias adult population but comprise 55% of likely voters. In contrast, Latinos make up 35% of the states adult population but only 21% of likely voters. The shares of Asian American (15%) and African American (6%) likely voters are proportionate to their shares of the states adult population14% for Asian Americans and 6% for African Americans. Just under half (46%) of Democratic likely voters are white; 26% are Latino, 16% are Asian American, and 9% are African American. An overwhelming majority (72%) of Republican likely voters are white; relatively few are Latino (13%), Asian American (10%), or African American (1%).
A State with 41% Whites should not have 2 White Senators. The percent of Whites in the Dem party is lower of course.
If were talking the second largest demographic. But Im not living in CA at the moment

(3,635 posts)He's perfect for the high profile job of CA Senator, and would do well to raise the Dem party's profile with Latino voters. He's telegenic, has a compelling story, speaks fluent Spanish, voted against the Iraq War.

(9,965 posts)Hands down. Can't you see her in the Senate with Warren? What a formidable pair! Anyway, Adam Schiff should be Speaker of the House when Nancy retires.

(10,133 posts)Alex Padilla, Secretary of State, and Xavier Becerra, Attorney General, have both won state-wide elections so they've shown they have wide appeal in California. And I'd think either would be the first non-Cuban Hispanic senator.

(56,828 posts)that Katie Porter supposedly had the inside track, but that may have changed over the past month or so
Indykatie
(3,695 posts)Why would she have the inside track for the seat when there are so many other qualified and more experienced options in the state? I like Porter but she should not be chosen as Harris' replacement. That smacks of the White privilege we often complain about. The person chosen should represent the diversity and base of the Dem party in CA.

(1,098 posts)There is nothing the constitution that forbids it. She would have two votes in the Senate if there is a tie.

(24,221 posts)Replace Harris with Katie Porter because you should appoint a woman to replace a woman
And then Adam Schiff can run for and take Diane Feinstein seat when her terms up

He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. I think you can pretty much forget a white male replacing Harris. After that, he'll make no one happy...
Black people will want a black woman to replace Harris, like Karen Bass. Latinos will say it's time for them to have a senator as they are the largest minority group in California and it's time they have a seat. Women will demand that only a woman should replace Harris. What a mess. As long as he doesn't sell it off like Blago did in Illinois, it'll work itself out I guess.

(52,155 posts)so no one gets a leg up and the voters decide. It would be a nice cap for Brown, last he was on the public stage which wasn't all that long ago, he seemed quite sharp.
