How will CA replace Kamala Harris once Biden wins?

Is it governor appointment? Or is there a special election? Who is most likely going to be her replacement in the US Senate? Who would you want?

If it's an appointment, I want Rep. Adam Schiff. If it's a special election, I want Rep. Adam Schiff to win. I want Schiff in the US Senate.

IIRC the appointment lasts until the next congressional election year, which means 2 years, which is when the term is up anyway. So normal Senate election in 2 years.

This info is from Public Policy Institute of CA

https://www.ppic.org/publication/california-voter-and-party-profiles/

Whites make up only 41% of California’s adult population but comprise 55% of likely voters. In contrast, Latinos make up 35% of the state’s adult population but only 21% of likely voters. The shares of Asian American (15%) and African American (6%) likely voters are proportionate to their shares of the state’s adult population—14% for Asian Americans and 6% for African Americans. Just under half (46%) of Democratic likely voters are white; 26% are Latino, 16% are Asian American, and 9% are African American. An overwhelming majority (72%) of Republican likely voters are white; relatively few are Latino (13%), Asian American (10%), or African American (1%).

A State with 41% Whites should not have 2 White Senators. The percent of Whites in the Dem party is lower of course.

He's perfect for the high profile job of CA Senator, and would do well to raise the Dem party's profile with Latino voters. He's telegenic, has a compelling story, speaks fluent Spanish, voted against the Iraq War.

Alex Padilla, Secretary of State, and Xavier Becerra, Attorney General, have both won state-wide elections so they've shown they have wide appeal in California. And I'd think either would be the first non-Cuban Hispanic senator.

Why would she have the inside track for the seat when there are so many other qualified and more experienced options in the state? I like Porter but she should not be chosen as Harris' replacement. That smacks of the White privilege we often complain about. The person chosen should represent the diversity and base of the Dem party in CA.

He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. I think you can pretty much forget a white male replacing Harris. After that, he'll make no one happy...

Black people will want a black woman to replace Harris, like Karen Bass. Latinos will say it's time for them to have a senator as they are the largest minority group in California and it's time they have a seat. Women will demand that only a woman should replace Harris. What a mess. As long as he doesn't sell it off like Blago did in Illinois, it'll work itself out I guess.
