(58,596 posts)And in OH, they won't let you vote in a general election on a regular ballot if your ballot never shows up. You will have to vote provisional.
However you can vote on a regular ballot during early voting period.
we can do it
(12,169 posts)Everyone who hasnt got theirs yet should do this if at all possible.

(44,972 posts)There are disabled voters, voters stuck in nursing homes (which they can't leave to vote because of pandemic), and so on.

(13,225 posts)They didn't even know (or care?) that ZERO ballots had been mailed as of last Thursday until people started to call to complain. We finally got ours on Wednesday.

(44,972 posts)You go somewhere, request absentee ballot, is given one on the spot, and vote and turn it in.
Would they let people who didn't get their absentees in a mail to vote that way?

(13,225 posts)early in person. Additionally, if you show up at the polls on election day to vote, you ,must turn in your mail in ballot or else you will be forced to vote with a provisional ballot.
Local paper reported on a man who was leaving to visit his son in Africa and had not gotten his ballot. He tried to vote in person and was refused.

(44,972 posts)In OH they will let you vote provisional on election day if you requested an absentee but didn't receive it. It doesn't matter if you bring in your absentee ballot, they will only let you vote provisional, not regular.
I believe they will also be able to cancel your ballot if you asked for it by mail, and let you vote in person early. I don't think you have to present your absentee ballot, but you should bring it with you if you change your mind and decide to vote early in person (of course you have to have it to begin with).

(44,972 posts)1) only one early voting place per county, doesn't matter how many people reside in the county
2) one drop box per county, doesn't matter how many people reside in the county
All of that means that it's impossible to do a lot of volume during early voting, unless voting by mail.
They were surprised by the number of mail absentee requests? I call bullshit. There is a pandemic going on. It was obvious that absentee requests were going to go way up.
Company should not accept orders it couldn't full fill.
Is it any surprise OH is red? Small rural counties can vote just fine with their one voting place per county and one drop box per county.
Large urban counties can't easily early vote, unless by mail, and now there are issues with getting absentee ballots by mail?

They don't matter as much when people can't vote.

(44,972 posts)ballots by mail.
One option is to vote early - not easy in large counties with one early voting place.
Other option is to vote provisional on election day. Should be easier than voting early, as many places will be open, but provisional ballots aren't counted until 10 days after the election.
And obviously not everybody wants to be in crowds during a pandemic (which is why absentee applications were through the roof to begin with).

(33,474 posts)is voter suppression.
LisaL
(44,972 posts)Because in a small county, one early voting place is just fine.
But in a large county, how many people can vote in that one early voting place? Our county can do 3,300 people per day, and that's with long lines.
So basically no way our large county can do more than 100,000 people early voting in person.
Not because people don't want to early vote, but because there is only one early voting place per county of over a million people.
