I just voted. I sat down and did the OBVIOUS choices then looked up the judges that I did not know for retention. It took a while. Of course here in Kansas there were other offices where the only choice was a Republican or you could choose this Republican or that Republican. While it is all important the very first choice on the ballot was for Biden/Harris. I normally do not tell people how I voted, and here on DU it should be obvious, but that was a happy oval to fill in. They were not my first or second or even third choice but damn, I feel mighty fine voting for them. It will be OK, it will be much much more than OK, it will be a nice calm chance to return to something that resembles what we are supposed to be. Last night surprised me, how much more comfortable Biden made me feel. *not that my vote was in any way movable*
Tomorrow we will drive our ballots to the election office or, if I can find the circulating drop box we will drop them there.
I really cannot remember feeling this good about voting. It always feels good but this is life affirming. At least, no matter what, we did our part in voting. It felt very good.

(38,958 posts)I would really suggest turning them in at the election office. We did so here in St. Louis County, Missouri and it is a wonderful feeling to see your ballot dropped in the box by the election official. You know it arrived and is in safe hands.
MuseRider
(35,176 posts)but there is a circulating drop box here in the town. The thing that is cool about it is it hits all areas on different days with a schedule in the paper. It is locked and accompanied by someone every day. It is pretty cool looking too. Kansas may be a nutty state but other than the creep Kobach, the entire state goes out of it's way to make it easy to vote for everyone.

(35,176 posts)I always feel good when I vote and I remember feeling really good voting against Bush**, Reagan and all the others but especially those two but this feels better because this was just wrong from the beginning and there is so much to clean up. I believe Biden/Harris can do that and move us in a positive direction again. God only knows how long it will take to get the other countries to trust us again. YES IT FELT GREAT!

(17,541 posts)Two of his strengths is making people across the political spectrum start to trust him, and knowing wha the executive branch looked like BEFORE Trump wrecked it.
I feel grateful when any decent politicians are willing to devote so much time and effort to getting into office where they can do some good. I sure dont think he is in it for money or personal power.

(35,176 posts)I agree and all of those things make it a good vote, a very good vote.

(7,794 posts)running for offices, info on them is available with a shortish google search. The either-or is in every office. I discovered many bombs ready to go off in my ballots over the years in KY as well as here in FL. Perfectly innocuous persons until you confirm they worked for the Bush campaign or were active in their university's "conservative action groups".
Remember, even Newt Gingrich started off as a lowly Georgia regional director in Rockefeller's 1968 campaign and then went on to Ga. 6th congressional district, running repeatedly until finally getting a majority to overlook his wackiness in 1978.
Down ballot voting is VERY important! Ignorant voters invite the ghost of Thom Jefferson to haunt them. no excuses. really haunt.

(4,506 posts)I was so surprised that I got a "I Voted" sticker! I collect them on my laptop. I was so surprised, I exclaimed "Yea, Thank you so much. I didn't think I would have one this year." Through his mask the gentleman was smiling.

(35,176 posts)I got out my thin line Sharpie. I very carefully and jubilantly slowly filled in those little ovals! I am always so sad because I have to vote for someone I did not really support. Well, this time was different. I not only voted against someone who needs to be in prison not our White House, I also voted for someone with the experience to clean things up and get us back on our feet. Harris will be doing her thing, she is competent and capable. It was, as you said, truly cathartic.

Thank you for your vote and for joining the ranks of us who've already voted!

(1,464 posts)Spoke to a Dem candidate yesterday who told me that there is a huge Independent vote that is casting their ballot via absentee. Haven't felt this kind of excitement since 2008.
Go Dems.

Dropped it here about 2 weeks ago:

(79,122 posts)I delivered my ballot yesterday. As an old man, I can say this is my favorite vote I've ever made. Of course, I voted for the Biden-Harris ticket, as well as for Rep. Anthony Brindisi.

(35,176 posts)Old man? I just saw a picture of you as a kid and I think I am older than you and I am NOT and old woman (lol well......).
I put mine down for Barbara Bollier, fingers crossed. It would be a miracle to have a Democratic Senator! Pretty exciting knowing that that race is very close.
It was wonderful to help re-up the judges that Gov. Kelly has put in and vote to remove all the judges from Brownback. I do not know if that will be the result but it did feel good. Our Supreme Court is pretty good so...YAY!
I think that we are all so battered that almost nothing would feel better than voting against this administration and all those who would use our government to keep up out.

(79,122 posts)arthritis -- real or imagined -- dating back to when I worked in house construction tadpole.
I just watched a movie on Netflix about the trial of the Chicago Seven. It was pretty accurate, right up to the end. I recognized quite a few of the film's trial quotes from the book of court transcripts I have. There have been other crazy times in this country, and we tend to get through them. (Years after the trial, I had opportunities to hang out and talk with three of the guys. Another's widow moved near here a few years back. She's still a good activist.)
It seems like the majority of the country recognizes the need to kick Trump & Co out of office. A couple friends that I spoke to today noted that their red-neck friends and neighbors seem to accept that Biden will win, and that they are tired of making excuses for Trump. I'm so happy that I won't have to see Trump or Pence again.
