Im at a truck stop west St. Louis! Im done for the day, so I went to truck stop to get couple of and went out to park my truck in a safe spot! The spot I picked was next to another truck. So, I began to backing into the spot. The Trumper was polishing the wheels and had his right door open, so I stopped and kindly walked up to him and asked him to close his door so I didnt hit it. Well! Then he proceeds to call a Fn idiot and I didnt know what I was doing and there where plenty of other spots I could have parked in. I said to him no need to to get rude and all I did was asked him to close his door. He slammed the door shut and kept mouthing off! I ignored him and finished backing! Not saying another word him, he comes and bangs on my door and starts to yell at me! I ignored him again and finally screams out you fn something or another Democrats need to leave this country! I just had enough and I laughed at him, asking him what does politics have to with this? He said that Trump would fix the country once for all! Then he moves his truck to another part of the truck stop! Another driver came over and was laughing too! He had seen it all and said he was confused why he got at me in the first? We both laughed and that was the end of it, thankfully!

(65,010 posts)My dad drove a semi. Local only. He delivered dairy products to a half dozen supermarkets each day.
I doubt they would have allowed that, even in the 60s & 70s when things were a bit less divisive.
I know that representing company management hundreds of times, it would have forbidden to discuss politics with customers. In fact, we were reminded yearly!

(10,303 posts)The name of the company, the DOT # and that's it. None of this VIN, GVWR, MCC, CVOR stuff.
I've seen a Werner truck decked out with Trump flags on the windows (like those sports team flags one might stick on the car windows) and a J&R Schugel truck parked at the Love's in Albert Lea MN with a huge ass *rump flag on a huge ass flag pole. Part of me wanted to call out the drivers on it, other part (which won over) was what the heck I got this glass to deliver.

(13,787 posts)I guess he figured since I asked nicely, I was a Democrat? I never stated anything about politics nor did I engage in any sort dialogue concerning politics! He just went off on me.
Sorry, I missed a word or two! It has been a long week and I am tired.

(21,106 posts)When are they NOT angry over something??? Unless it was November 4th 2016, and I'm sure they were angry then too for "some" reason.
PatSeg
(47,419 posts)they might have been disgruntled or dissatisfied, but Trump and right-wing media has given permission to express their anger outwardly. I also think a lot of them were relatively normal until they got brainwashed by nonstop talk radio and Fox News. Then along came Trump to light the fuse!
They weren't all angry and mean before, but they were all weak, impressionable, and intellectually lazy. Perfect candidates for brainwashing.

(1,351 posts)Though the Trump supporter types seem to be bitter and angry in general, I've noticed an escalation in their anger. I think that's due to the stress of knowing Trump will likely lose.

(1,325 posts)I think they are dealing with what will they do without their chosen-one god of a leader. I find it hard to believe that they are not aware on some level, however deep, that they have been backing the wrong horse all this time, except maybe the ones who NEVER expose themselves to anything but Fox. But even Fox occasionally disagrees with him. At this point it would be hard to not realize they are in the minority and they are going to lose. And then what? There goes their entire identity.

(1,351 posts)My husband and I were just talking about this on our evening walk. Youve got the racist, angry , bigoted supporters who seemed to be motivated by hate, regardless of who is spouting it (in this case its Trump). And then youve got the supporters who are far more difficult to figure out. Those who are intelligent and even kind. I have two Trump supporter friends who fall into this latter category and I just have the hardest time understanding how they, being the kind and generous people they are, support a man who does such vile things.
It seems to me this latter category seem to understand Trump is a horrible person, but to allow themselves license to continue to support him they convince themselves the other side is worse. Despite being intelligent people, they purposely dont dig deeper into the truth than reading whatever right wing headline what fits into their long held views of the left being bad and the right being good.
Both seem equally unreachable unfortunately

(28,941 posts)This country, the world, is changing. Trump promised them he wouldn't let that happen. Of course he lied. Trump considered them useful idiots. They're being left behind and they can't, they don't understand why.
They can't be angry at Trump. That would be an admission that they were wrong. So they're angry at anyone Trump tells them are responsible.
Because you were polite and well mannered, that was empathy and consideration, another quality they can't understand. That makes you the Other, the one Trump warned them about.
My take, FWIW

(1,910 posts)Trump's father and himself and his kids have spent their entire lives pissing on workers, suppliers, tax laws, the religious, the military, the elderly. They literally would recoil in horror if any of the supporters came too close to them.
There is something profoundly pathetic of seeing a pick up truck with a Trump sticker or the blank eyes at his rallies. Some seriously damaged and empty human beings. When you hear them speak its like somehow they stopped progressing in cognitive skills at ages 4-5. They are very immature emotionally with no ability to feel empathy or see past the immediate. Bobby pushed girl on play ground, girl fell, girl cried, Bobby laughed.
In the end I think JohnnyRingo is correct, they see themselves in Trump. If daddy had left me money, if I had power....I would steal and cheat and bully and draft dodge and and marry paid escorts, etc.
