Alberta Conservative party moves to challenge single payer in the province



Passed today in the UCP annual general meeting by a majority of the 793 votes cast. This is the first real challenge to the single payer concept that the Canadian system has seen since its inception.

If they move to a private, for profit system, Ottawa can yank federal health care transfer payments.

Most of the health care system is paid for by the provinces as it is; Federal spending in Canada on health care is actually lower per capita than in the US.

Our federal spending on health care in the US is higher due to immensely inefficient private, for profit bureaucracy.

first hand our inefficient and inequitable private health insurance system. We don't really have health care here, just insurance that may or may not cover what ails you.
