And mentioning SARS, coming from China. Something about a woman dying in an auto accident, and they discover she had vials of a corona virus in the trunk of her car.
Season 14, episode 3 - "Patient Zero".
(Sunday are my 'days off' from political television.)

(113,418 posts)The Middle Eastern Coronavirus (MERS-COV) is another.
The SARS outbreak occurred in 2002-2003, so it was a topical current reference at the time the show was made and SARS-COV-1 did originate in China.
None of this is new to those working in infectious diseases--many who saw the first indications of COVID-19 in a shared public health research global email in December at which time, CDC really began ramping up and spreading (an ignored) alarm.

(113,418 posts)immune response more guided by activated t-cells than antibodies, which tend to be short-lived, but it may well be possible that they will be sufficiently stimulated by some of the current vaccines in testing.

(37,854 posts)4 are of the common cold variety, then there is SARS-CoV-1, SARS-CoV-2 and MERS.
I would hope they are looking at how to genetically engineer a virus from one of the common cold ones to induce SARS-CoV-1 immunity.

(27,830 posts)It's funny - when I first heard it mentioned I thought my ears were playing tricks on me. And I'm sure I've seen this episode before. Well, no doubt since I'm addicted to the repeats, but at one time that mention wouldn't have hit a nerve, at all.

(113,418 posts)But, if the show had a terrorism aspect to the plot, I can see why they might have inferred.

Still, from 17 years ago...
And, you happened to watch that episode!
Weird, indeed.

It's not a big stretch for a writer to use the idea of a pandemic (like Spanish Flu) and create a storyline like that.
Listen to the podcast "This Podcast Will Kill You", the first Coronavirus episode. It is a good listen

(1,580 posts). MERS, SARS , COVID IS SARS II I forgot the 4th. Some of them have limited immunity or cyclinical immunity which is why they come back every year. And why Fauci said ut might be cyclinal at those hearings.

(44,267 posts)I just saw it recently on TV. Its about a case of smallpox coming into New York and the contact tracing they had to do, pretty interesting. Of course they already had a vaccine for when they found who had been exposed, unlike now.

(27,830 posts)He's my fictional hero. When I was still working in a VERY toxic department, I was only sleeping 2 or 3 hours a night. I watched each and every Law and Order rerun, repeatedly. Then once I extracted myself from that nightmare of a job, I couldn't break the habit. BUT I found that if I was having trouble sleeping, watching it seemed to help me turn off my residual anxieties and fall back to sleep. I credit Jack with saving my sanity.

Having said that, I'd still like them to reboot the show.

Actually, my favorite episodes are those last few seasons with Linus Roache playing Mike Cutter but they are my favorites by just a fraction because, once Jack McCoy came on the scene, it was love, love, love.
The earlier seasons with Michael Moriarty were 'ok'. He just wasn't Jack.
