Can someone explain to me how the legislative process

would work as opposed to rulings by SCOTUS regarding cases/situations such as marriage equality (gay marriage)?

1. Look to the Lilly Ledbetter Act.

The Supreme Court ruled against Ledbetter and in favor of Goodyear. The Obama administration passed a law that made it harder for companies like Goodyear to discriminate in paying employees fairly.

The Legislative and Executive branches can overcome bad Supreme Court rulings through legislation. They can do this with marriage equality if necessary.
