NPR: Why Do Nonwhite Georgia Voters Have To Wait In Line For Hours? Too Few Polling Places

My biggest fear is not that more people will like Trump over Biden. Rather, it despite the large advantage polling that Biden/Harris have, that people will simply be prevented from voting. Over the years, suppressing the voting and ignoring the popular will of the people has become a staple of Republican ideology. This is most evidence in the appointment of judges who are willing to rubber stamp voting restrictions.

Kathy spotted the long line of voters as she pulled into the Christian City Welcome Center about 3:30 p.m., ready to cast her ballot in the June 9 primary election.

Hundreds of people were waiting in the heat and rain outside the lush, tree-lined complex in Union City, an Atlanta suburb with 22,400 residents, nearly 88% of them Black. She briefly considered not casting a ballot at all, but decided to stay.

By the time she got inside more than five hours later, the polls had officially closed and the electronic scanners were shut down. Poll workers told her she'd have to cast a provisional ballot, but they promised that her vote would be counted.

"I'm now angry again, I'm frustrated again, and now I have an added emotion, which is anxiety," said Kathy, a human services worker, recalling her emotions at the time. She asked that her full name not be used because she fears repercussions from speaking out. "I'm wondering if my ballot is going to count."

For example. Harris county has about 150 early voting locations. Yes asshole Abbott has limited the mail in drop box locations to 1 per county, but people have ample early voting locations because of smart pro-active local Democratic election officials. That hasn't always been the case. As Democrats we must demand more from our side to offset the shenanigans of Republicans. Just my $.02

And that is why he is limiting drop box ballot boxes over the objections of Harris County official's. Also, doesn't Texas limit early voting?

But isn't the expanded early voting only due to COVID-19?

AUSTIN, Texas — Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, who has refused calls to expand mail-in voting in Texas during the coronavirus pandemic, was sued Wednesday by prominent members of his own party who now want to halt the biggest change he instead ordered for November’s election — extending early voting by a week.

The lawsuit escalates an extraordinary backlash Abbott is facing from the Texas GOP’s right wing that has criticized his handling of the pandemic as overbearing and unlawful. As Texas has now surpassed 15,000 deaths from COVID-19, anger among conservative activists has simmered for months over a statewide mask mandate and lockdown orders, including bars, which have been closed since June.

Previous challenges to Abbott’s orders were largely mounted by conservative activists, but the latest one filed straight to the Texas Supreme Court widens the list to seven GOP lawmakers as well as Allen West, a former Florida congressman who is the new chairman of the Texas Republican Party.

They argue Abbott did not have the power to put in place six additional days of early voting without input from the state Legislature, which is out of session this year and won’t meet again until January.
