During a recent appearance on the podcast On the Edge with Ken Harrison this week, Senator James Lankford (R-OK) talked about what he believes to be Gods role in government. This Monday, the Christian news outlet Charisma News shared some key insights from Lankfords interview.
According to Lankford, the nation would not be in the state that its in right now if the godly men of this nation would actually love their wife, love their children and would actually walk with God in the workplace.
Lankford said that while the U.S. is not a theocracy, God nevertheless has an interest in whats happening in politics.
Were a republic. But it is clear that God, as the Creator, is interested in whos actually serving in government as well and what their values and what their morals really are and what their priorities are, he said. So for folks that are hesitating and saying, Gosh, politics is such a dirty business. Its like journalism or Hollywood. Its such a dirty business. I dont know if I want to get into it. Ill say to them, What is better? No salt or salt being applied? If you have an interest in getting involved in that, I know its hard. I know its difficult. Go apply salt to it and see what happens.'

I wonder what pepper, ketchup, and mustard bring to the legislative table? (Yes, I know that's a little punny.)

(16,616 posts)I'm reading a book right now entitled The Power Worshippers: Inside the Dangerous Rise of Religious Nationalism by Katherine Stewart. She traces this development and does a deep dive on the individuals and organizations behind it. Those words he's using in that fourth paragraph are almost verbatim from the handouts they are giving politicians they are enlisting into this effort. This particular person sounds like maybe he's been inculcated by Capitol Ministries.

(19,264 posts)Like most Evangelicals he has a very limited understanding of the actual words of the bible.
It was a warning for Christians who have lost their way. The irony is that it is being spoken by a "Christian" who has lost his way.

(33,222 posts)I'm assuming he's referring to the covenant between God and man. Which was represented by salt.
This kind of stuff is where they became so good at the dog-whistles they use constantly. Because, it conveys a message to those in-the-know while sounding like gibberish to those outside of their intended audience.

(7,365 posts)These charlatans are a danger. His "God" I am guessing would promote policies that leave people hungry, homeless, destitute, would promote the destruction of people of foreign lands so we can possess their resources. His "God" has also not spoken about the immorality of people that die or go bankrupt because the sick criminal health care system is all about profits. This list is endless, the ONLY THING this clown's God seems to care about is giving more power to the rich and protecting zygotes. Fuck these people
