Faked nude images of more than 100,000 women have been created from social media pictures and shared online, according to a new report.
Clothes are digitally removed from pictures of women by Artificial Technology (AI), and spread on the messaging app Telegram.
Some of those targeted "appeared to be underage", the report by intelligence company Sensity said.
But those running the service said it was simply "entertainment".

(56,085 posts)personally, i have less than zero interest in child porn, fake or otherwise.
regular porn, i've seen, i can take it or leave it. i'm fine with it as long as the participants know they're being filmed, are adults, and aren't coerced.
in this case it sounds like there's a lack of consent so i'm not cool with it.
but in terms of men in general, yeah, this sort of thing will find customers. a lot of customers.

(29,949 posts)Dont claim my emotional state, please.
The thread is about a lurid subject. If you want to claim a connection to that in any way, Please proceed. Self-deprecating or not.

(1,977 posts)I am taking charge of mine. Your response is over the top and completely rude. Nobody is making a connection to anything. Good grief.

(15,511 posts)... and a bunch of the men just posted pics of their supposed penises according to her.
She had bought a horse a few months earlier (rented the stable), and she was on some kind of dating site for "country types" to maybe find a boyfriend also interested in horses.

(16,698 posts)The first movable type was used to print the bible. The next use was for porn. Photography, movies, video, Polaroids, etc, the second use of most of these technologies was porn.

(56,085 posts)early in the days of the world wide web, people were all abuzz about the concept of "ecommerce", but everyone was wary of sending their credit card information "into the ether" and many merchants were excited about the possibilities but unconvinced that it would be accepted by consumers.
then came porn and men opened their wallets as they are wont to do for such things, and they made a ton of money quickly and easily online. and suddenly merchants in other businesses and investors realized, wow, people really will submit credit card info online, this thing is going to work, and it was off to the races for online business and the boom began.
less visibly, they've also pushed demand for more storage and faster speeds as this is also important to that industry.

(101,077 posts)I never had any photos on any social media. And I was probably not attractive enough to get any interest from those sort of people.

(26,168 posts)Just because there is no physical violence does not mean there is no abuse taking place. The argument that there are "wars, diseases, many bad things that are harmful in the world" so this harmless by comparison is just -- oh, shut up. Shut. Up.
Maybe no one is being blackmailed yet (that we know of) but that's only because the quality is unrealistic so far. eta - Just watched the video that goes with the article. Bella Thorne was blackmailed, and released her own nudes rather than let someone release fake ones. How awful for her, or anyone, to be put in that situation.
Likely part of the thrill and the point for some, if not all of the people drawn to the service. I use the terms 'people' and 'service' loosely in this instance. Talking about this just in terms of pornography misses part of the point -- computer generated images of fake people with fake faces is possible. Why not do that? Women have been posing for nude photos for as long as cameras have existed. Why generate a fake at all? Well, faking the face is a little more trouble, plus then the violation and humiliation element is lost, especially if customers have particular women (or children) in mind.
This is a form of identity theft, as well as targeted assault and abuse, and that really should be emphasized when devising legal protections against the activity.
