Who better to get our country back in good standing on the world stage? All world leaders like him except Putin.
He's done enough for several lifetimes. SoS is a bear of a job, and there's plenty of qualified people who want it.

And it's far more in keeping with what modern ex-presidents normally do.

(3,392 posts)Who even said Barack needed a job? But the thought of it isnt impossible. The right wing is calling for his impeachment this morning, when things get too crazy he could just walk away as Speaker John Boehner did.

(64,184 posts)He's young enough to stick around to become CJ.
He'd be the 2nd POTUS (I think) to go to SCOTUS. Pretty sure Taft did that.

(7,715 posts)It happened once before with William Howard Taft who, after his Presidency, became Chief Justice. Unfortunately, when Joe wins, it's unlikely he'll get to pick a CJ, and I doubt Barack would settle for anything less.
That being said, Taft had been a federal judge before he became President.
Of course, it's just a dream about an ideal world/utopia, but wouldn't it be great for Barack Obama to sit on the US Supreme Court with lifetime tenure!!?!
(B/t/w the last time a Democratic President picked a Chief Justice of SCOTUS who was confirmed was 1946 by Harry Truman! Folks, that was 74 years ago. The Rs have played the SCOTUS game well. Once they saw the social changes brought about the Warren Court (and remember that Earl Warren was nominated by Ike), they clearly have done everything they can to control this branch of the US government. It's all the more reason to consider judicial reforms).

(468 posts)Seems like a tough job. If i were him i'd just be an advocate as a former president and enjoy a more or less relaxing life.

(7,715 posts)It's just a pipedream.
I think it's better he does what he's doing now: advising the party and its leaders. He's accomplished everything a person could accomplish in this life and he's not even 60 years old. Presidents Carter and Clinton are getting up there in age (although Bill is younger than Joe). So it's good for BHO to continue as the "elder" statesmen of the Ds.

(2,256 posts)Dont think he would take a demotion, because after being POTUS, Sec State is a demotion.

(17,853 posts)William Howard Taft who became Chief Justice, and Andrew Johnson who became a Senator, has any other former President taken a political job (elected or appointed)? Hoover helped on some commissions to reform the Federal government.

(32,199 posts)... Obama can! He is our most beloved Goodwill Ambassador.
He'd make an awesome Secretary of State.
THEN he can have his well-deserved seat on SCOTUS.
