Why Trump’s Rallies Probably Aren’t Working
October 21, 2020 at 6:39 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Politico: “Trump views rallies in battleground states as the linchpin of his closing argument, a means to excite his supporters and ensure they vote on Nov. 3. But many Republicans close to the White House, former senior administration officials and political advisers say the rallies are largely a way to keep the unscripted and undisciplined president occupied, since they do little to persuade new Trump voters. Rallies, they note, do not woo senior citizens, independents or suburban women, many of whom have moved away from the Trump ticket this election cycle. Most of Trump’s rallies are no longer televised nationally as they once were.”

“And with coronavirus infection rates climbing, the Trump rallies often draw negative headlines in local news markets because the packed events defy public health guidelines, featuring few masks and almost no social distancing.”

Trumps act is stale. It’s boring. It’s old because in 2016 he said the problems are caused by somebody else. In 2020 he is the problem.

They follow him around like they're some warped, parallel universe Dead Heads, where the band preaches hatred, rather than "Be kind." I call them, "Brain-dead Heads." You don't attract new supporters, when all you do is talk to the same people over and over again.

And the crowd responds, "Lock them up ..."

They live in a fantasy world where Trump is a great guy and a man of the people.

he's using the rallies to drive up turnout among his core supporters. Seems pretty obvious to me as his polling has been way down among non college educated whites.

If they are meant to rally a hard core group of potentially violent zombies to react when he claims victory despite all evidence to the contrary...

Then they might be working just fine.

People don't just wake up believing all that shit. It has to be drummed into them over and over again.

The optics during this pandemic are not a positive. Far more voters choose not to attend rallies, and many see each of Trump's ignorant supporters that attend as a possible selfish COVID spreader.

you gripe and moan that it's too cold and you really didn't want to come then leave early before your rally is over like he did last night in Erie, PA. Nothing like waiting all day with your stupid red hat on for your dear leader to have him spit on you and tell you how you are nothing but a pain in the neck to him....

He has no money, so he is attempting the 2016 play. Problem is this time the news is not playing his "rallies", all he gets now is a quick story with comments re: no masks or social distancing.
