Pennsylvania Capital-Star: A roadside billboard in Fayette County repeating a Republican accusation that Democratic nominee presidential Joe Biden suffers from diminished mental capacity has a deficiency of its own: A whopper of a spelling error.
Bidens dimensia is worsening, he is not fit, the billboard reads, misspelling dementia.'

(81,451 posts)Penneco has a history putting up right-wing billboards. In 2018, a Penneco billboard in North Huntington called women who accused now Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavannaugh of sexual assault Paid LIARS. That year, the same electronic billboard also ran ads supporting Republicans Scott Wagner and Lou Barletta.

(732 posts)I am a queen of the typo. Prior to retirement when I had to create and distribute reports I always used spell and grammar check, even more important, I had others read them prior to completion. How can you be so sloppy. If I was a person donating to this my anger would be unchecked. These unforced errors show so much contempt to their donors and the voters.

(47,399 posts)but today we spellcheck on most of our devices. This is inexcusable, especially considering how expensive a billboard is. No one thought to double check the spelling of the word? It wasn't a minor error either, they butchered the word. Its as if a six year old tried to spell it phonetically.

And apparently hes been using them to watch exercise videos, but because the quality is poor, hes not getting a proper workout. Ergo, he isnt fit.

(3,764 posts)Is it the billboard company or the group that ordered it at fault? I remember ordering printing done and their clearly stating to make sure the copy was correct because they would print it exactly as it was ordered. While I do think the billboard company should have realized the misspelling, I wonder who made the misspelling originally, the billboard company or the group that ordered the billboard.

(1,789 posts)I work at a print wholesaler, and most of what gets printed, or plastered comes directly from the company or person placing the order. With the proliferation of PC's with graphics programs, less and less of the art is being created at the print shop. Our shop will notify customers of glaring typos, but not all do.

Those 2018 ads were purchased by Citizens for American Energy, a super PAC based in Delmont, that shares the same address as Penneco Outdoor Advertising. Additionally, the top (and only) donor to the Citizens for American Energy in 2018 was Delmonts Penneco Land Company LLC., according to Open Secrets.

We focus too much on the covfefe, the clownish tan the purposeful distractions. This unwittingly gives the underlying message or activities a pass.

(128,854 posts)I think except for the parrot base that keeps repeating it, the average citizen is aware of the chaos in their lives associated with a botched response to the pandemic and they are trying to find someone who could get a handle on it so they can start returning to some semblance of "normalcy" in their lives - meaning they want a "change".
The ad messaging from this current administration has now become so OTT that people, other than their base, are tuning it out. If anyone, their sights are set on Congress and the result of that will be a bigger factor for the party IMHO.

(13,100 posts)Its just that more commentary will be made about the misspelling than will be made about their lies and slander.
This will probably be in every late night monologue. And little will be said about the lieand I think that these obfuscating errors are purposeful for that reason.

(128,854 posts)and even local media, there is pretty much a "fact check frenzy" going on, so "side articles" like that are part of the fraction that aren't doing a deep dive. And if you actually read past the headline and the "soundbite reporting" that "Political Wire" does and look at the source article (which is now the 1st link in the OP), the rest of the article pretty much outs the source of the crap billboard and their obvious agenda.
In any case, I doubt the Pennsylvania Capital-Star is considered a "major newspaper" in the manner that the Philadelphia Inquirer is here in Philly.
