I fucking bow down to him. I mean, I loved his stuff prior to this, it's all been brilliant and I have never laughed so hard at anything than I do at his stuff. I mean real, deep down, hysterical, gulping for air laughing. I'm a HUGE fan.
But this Giuliani thing takes it to a new, rarefied level of pure, utter, unfettered genius. It's so brilliant on so many levels. So poignant, so ironic, just...I don't know, words fail. Just pure awe at the masterwork. A once in a generation or more type of genius.
BRAVO BORAT! BRAVO SACHA!

(4,945 posts)I never gave him a chance until hubby and I saw Chicago 7 the other night.
Wonder if I need to see his previous movie in order to enjoy the one opening tomorrow on Netflix.
Anyway, I agree. This guy is incredibly talented.
And he got Giuliani in fine fashion!! Such a good take down.

(3,177 posts)His movies can be VERY Raunchy and infantile in many ways, but also VERY deeply revealing of truth through brilliant humor and satire. But it's also a lot dick jokes and silly, childish stuff. I would actually suggest starting with his TV Show "Ali G", then move on to his movies. I don't know if you NEED to see the first Borat movie before this one, but the first Borat movie is one of the funniest films I have ever seen.
Karma13612
(4,945 posts)I just might need that right now!!

(3,177 posts)Cohen's stuff. Ali G, Who is America, Borat, Bruno....Gut bustingly funny, gasping for breath laughter, for me.
SergeStorms
(20,200 posts)with the possible exception of 'Bruno'. I don't think it lived up to his other works. I won't go into the parts I thought were too sophomoric or far too politically incorrect, but I just thought it missed the mark. Personal tastes differ.

But, I have to admit to laughing a lot at the Ali G show. And some of SBC's last film.
He often shows some unfortunate truth that needs facing.

Honestly, his type of humor isn't really my style for reasons similar to those stated by others here. But the man's undeniably some twisted kind of genius...

(23,448 posts)They are mad they he included them in his spoof and they only paid them 3 Euros each I believe.
I think if he makes a lot of money off of this film he should give some to the village. They are extremely poor and live in hard conditions.
If not maybe someone who knows them could set up a Gofundme. I would donate.

We all hate Borat: The poor Romanian villagers humiliated by Sacha Baron Cohen's spoof documentary
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
UPDATED: 19:58 EDT, 17 October 2008
Seventeen-year-old Carmen Ciorebea may be a listless teenager, but she is resolute about one thing. 'Glod is a terrible, terrible village. Nothing ever happens and there is nothing beautiful to see here,' she sighs. 'I will never be happy here.'
She is not alone in these sentiments, which are shared by many in the poverty-stricken Romanian village, nestled in the shadow of the Carpathian mountains north-west of Bucharest. Life is hard here: toilets are little more than sheltered holes in the ground, and horses and donkeys are the only source of transport. Most people eke out a living peddling scrap iron or working scrubby patches of land.
So when a Hollywood film crew descended on Glod three years ago to make a 'documentary' about their lives, many of the 1,000 residents were only too happy to take the £3 that was offered to anyone who participated.
