(42,770 posts)our guy look the best - tonight was a setback. You can spin it a thousand different ways. It doesn't make it true. Missed comeback opportunities: one zillion
My hope is that we end up getting rid of the worst human being ever to be "president". And that Joe is our next president!!! He will be a great one.

(81,571 posts)trump probably figures he won because he wasn't foaming at the mount by halfway through.

(6,561 posts)Trump got to lie openly with little challenge. Biden held his own, but wasn't aggressive enough and Trump dominated the microphone

(11,760 posts)The reality is that Trump needed to be spectacular in this debate in order to make any changes in the race. He wasn't. He will certainly get credit for not flinging his shit, but that is like getting 400 on the SAT for putting your name on it.
He didn't do anything to convince anyone that he will be any different if given 4 more years. He flubbed his taxes again and he got nailed on race after he thought he had a good one on Biden, he got hit with the Central Park 5.
It was not a definitive debate for either. Biden did very well with his plans and details and Trump did not light himself on fire. Those were the standards.

(11,760 posts)"Why didn't you do anything in 8 years?" This was on immigration. Biden finally shut it down when spoke a fundamental truth ... Because Republicans were in charge of Congress.
Trump paused for like 10 seconds, then tried to come back with something, but the moment had passed.
It really was basically a debate where if you like Trump, you will think he won and if you like Biden, you will think he won.
There were no game changers.

(21,756 posts)made that point earlier than he did. Also wish Biden had then capitalized on it by saying the solution was more Democratic Senators to break the obstructionism of Moscow Mitch.
But those points can still be covered by Biden and his spokespersons tonight and tomorrow.
I would have liked to hear Biden mention Trump's supporters among white supremacist groups when they discussed race.
Overall, Biden did well, though. Got in some good zingers, like saying Trump was confused over who he was running against.
One point that Trump will play up and exaggerate out of context, though, was Biden saying that we must transition from fossil fuels. Trump will use this in oil and fracking states like TX and PA. Biden will need to emphasize to people in PA that they will have better jobs and improved local economies from the transition.

Big improvement, right?
Unfortunately for Trump, Biden was dramatically stronger tonight. He clearly won.

(11,607 posts)But I thought he was a little better in his March debate against Bernie and his 2012 debate with Paul Ryan. The Ryan debate is probably the best debate I've ever seen him do.

(18,672 posts)And I enjoyed the debate even though Trump is ridiculous. Jesus, the fact he got in the Presidency is something this country needs to atone for. He is not cut out for the job.

(54,770 posts)trump will feel he did enough for their vote (they were probably going to do that anyway). Same thing for Biden, for people who might lean toward him. There shouldn't be many undecideds after this.

(32,782 posts)I was so frustrated by trump's lies and it seemed like Joe was too calm in his responses, but if other people prefer that approach, then good. As long as no harm was done, I'm ok with it.

(4,986 posts)Didnt want him to fly off the handle, and by golly, he did not. I woulda lost it like 10 times over and that is why (among many reasons) I am not running for president.
Biden had ways of calling him out and getting onto to real ideas. Had to chuckle over tRumps bug-eyed moments. Was worth putting up with the noise coming from the so-called pResident.

I mean, tRump got lost in an indecipherable loop about the size of windows as an answer to how to address climate change. Folks, that wont do.

(5,484 posts)Joe made many good points.
And at least Donald was more sedate and didn't try to verbally stomp Joe into the ground like last time.
But did any Republican decide to change their vote to Joe based on that debate? Doubtful.
Not even the old line 'I will release my taxes at some time in the future' from Trump. After stalling for 4 years, really?
I've always seen Trump as an anarchist, bent on destroying everything and then expecting something better to grow in it's place, spontaneously.
Biden I see as someone who wants to continue the good works of the Obama years, and pick up on the things that were blocked for Obama by the Republicans.
So no contest in my eyes.
