I didn't notice that. If so that's bad. It's all the pundits will talk about, channeling 1992. Ugh.

(20,595 posts)Wow. I didnt know that.
I also must have missed the part where its 1992. That means Kurt Cobain and Prince are still alive! Sweet!

(10,478 posts)from 1992. Now if a candidate looks at his watch during a debate it's to prove that she's the candidate who can tell time.

I'll take the watch glance guy.

(20,595 posts)Except unlike the tan suit Literally no one is talking about it. Not on MSNBC. Not on CNN. Its not even trending on Twitter either.
But! But! What about HW Bush in 1992?!111
The unintentional comedy factor here never disappoints.

(17,740 posts)look at his watch in response to Welker saying we are short on time. Maybe he was surprised it was almost over, that it went so fast. I actually didnt watch most of it. I just happened to tune in right before he did that. Your right though the horror!-not.

(2,486 posts)The Bush 1992 thing was notable mainly because it was at a town hall-style debate. Bush's looking at his watch suggested disrespect or indifference to the ordinary voter questioners.
This is nothing like that. No one cares.

(56,198 posts)The trivia they choose to elevate to an issue of national importance shortly before an election.
Looking at a watch during a debate or sighing. As if this crap has anything to do with who should be president.
In 2000, gore walked over toward shrub in a move the pundits themselves widely anticipated as a known way to highlight a candidate's height advantage. Shrub was startled and jumped like the scared little beta boy he is, and the media instead decided to express shock that gore would "invade bush's space".
The media sometimes sides with us on this stuff, but mostly it's crap.

(1,058 posts)That he was a country-club WASP who was not in touch with ordinary people. That's why it was a big deal. It reinforced people's preexisting impression. Biden looking at his watch won't have the same effect.

Please heed the call
Dont stand in the doorway
Dont block up the hall

Itll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin
And the first one now will later be last

(12,011 posts)That's the song they used on the president's reelection night on West Wing. In 2012, I saw Obama giving Bob Dylan the lifetime achievement award and they played that song, and I thought to myself "I just heard that recently", and realized it had been while rewatching the episode of West Wing where the president was reelected. I figured that had to be good luck, so I listened to that song a lot in 2012. For the same reasons I'm avoiding it now. I know it's silly to be so superstitious, but I'm such a nervous wreck that I can't help it.

(510 posts)...is because it was a town hall. Bush was indicating that he didn't really want to be talking to real Americans.
Biden was debating Trump. There are a lot of reasons why a reasonable person might not particularly care about that.

People often bring up some past thing that happened to something that happens later on without considering the context.
Nobody things Biden is out of touch the people. So the same action is not going to hurt him.
