Last night Trump attacked Medicare for All as "socialized medicine." Funny. I didn't hear him complain when he received the best socialized medicine in the world for free at a 100% government run hospital. Yup. Trump loves socialism for himself, rugged individualism for the rest.

(42,862 posts)... it really seems highly unlikely that Joe would choose Bernie to be a member of his cabinet. It's all just speculation and wishful thinking at this point. Also the Republican governor of Vermont would appoint a Republican senator, and that would give us a 2-seat deficit if Biden "stole" Bernie from the Senate. The SMART observers know that this is simply NOT going to happen.

Single payer health insurance is socialized insurance not socialized medicine. Socialized medicine is where all the health care providers are employees of the government, like England.
In any case Medicare, as it is now constituted is not even socialized insurance. You have to pay for years to qualify and not everyone qualifies. It is a prepaid individual benefit plan with a trust account separate from government revenues.

the public (our government) assumes responsibility for resolving the debts and cleaning up the mess.
The unfortunate victim or deliberate perpetrator is freed from responsibility.

trump should be in the poor house, skid row.

(1,648 posts)I wrote in, 'Democratic Socialist' for my candidate write-in selection.
As far as I am concerned, Republicans are only selfish evil scum of the Earth that want to horde everything good and advanced, while profiting off of the rest of the 'losers and suckers' in America struggling to pay their Company Store prices.
Oh and it would help if the Democratic Party would finally realize that Republicans have turned that Company Store into the Corporate Government Store, where Corporations write the laws for the 'Subjects' (People Citizens) to be locked into their Corporate Government Store contract forever. In other words, Republicans took the Company Store model, injected it with steroids, and used the Government to morph it into their Corporate Government Store that forces contracts real people Citizens to survive.
That has been happening for decades, but the Democratic Party previously always thought they had to compete with Republicans for a piece of the Wall Street investor vote. And Biden should have reminded and scolded tRUMP last night that a majority of Americans don't have 401Ks or investments on the Stock Market.

(2,270 posts)When I mentioned this very thing about 1 1/2 years ago to my late mother, how the Senate/House/Executive branches (and V.A.)had /were "socialized" medicine she just said "Oh, I didn't know that". My Mother turned from being a nice, if blunt Lady to a hateful mean old woman in just a few years of being married to her trump humping husband and their/his constant stream of fox watching. I've seen firsthand how a toxic and unrelenting stream of hate and lies can alter a person.
there is much work to do.
Why do many people think it's okay for government officials to have "socialized health care" and, at the same time, to think it is despicable for they, themselves, to have socialized health care?
I do not understand this universe.
I won't miss it much when I leave.

(8,809 posts)but every last RepubliCON in the House and Senate enjoys the same socialism health care.......
As old as many of them are, let them go get private health insurance with their age and existing conditions.
Give them a dose of what it is like for the other hundreds of millions of their constituents ..........
The ONE word that best describes RepubliCONs is: Hypocrites
