When people got wind of Trump messing with the USPS they made sure to get around the delays by voting in person early, using drop boxes, or requesting mail in ballots early and mailing them in right away. Trump is now forced to depend on a huge Trump voter turnout on election day which probably will fall short in most if not all of the battleground states. This will be cited for years as "how to lose an election 101."

(30,613 posts)I made sure to bypass Louie DaJerk's USPS as much as my state allows (they had to mail my ballot to me, but I returned it in person). I requested it weeks in advance, and returned it the day after receiving it. I did have to practice forging my own signature, because I'm basically incapable of signing the same way twice; had to match my 35-year-old driver's license signature. I spent about a day on practicing.

(25,938 posts)I have mailed in my ballot several times, but not this time after finding out that numbnutz and his henchman were messing with USPS. I voted early in-person at the Board of Elections this time, short-circuiting attempts at election fuckery.

(8,200 posts)I will check the site to see that it was counted when the count begins. If not counted I will file be able to file a complaint and determine why. I really don't anticipate any problems. But the safeguards are in place to verify. It is absolutely ridiculous that we don't have universal balloting by mail.
One of the major problems with the election system is the control of Federal elections by the states that have been corrupted by crooked Republicans. Let the states control local elections, but Federal elections should be controlled by the Feds, not states.
We need some serious reforms of the entire system starting with laws that prevent the abuse of power by the president. Unfortunately, the Founders, especially George Washington placed a misguided trust in the honor of those elected to office. For them honor was the supreme mark of worth of a person. Unfortunately, many have show to be anything but honorable but to be dedicated contemptable hypocrites, liars and thieves.

(257 posts)Here in Arizona Republicans of a long enjoyed advantage in mail-in voting. This is why even though the state has been long dominated by Republicans we have a fairly good vote by mail apparatus. Because our state has a lot of senior voters who are more likely to vote Republican. Obviously seen her voters are more likely to have physical and pediment that make it hard for men to stand in line and vote the Republicans knowing this pushed for mail-in voting.
How many elderly people are going to want to stand in line in to vote with the the virus raging across the country?
I bet you Jared said we got to worry about mail-in voting and didn't understand anything further about the long-term implications and Trump ran with it because he's a stable genius.

(6,228 posts)We voted in mail in/drop off voting in 2018. I've done it twice and it's worked out fine. We just took our ballots to the City Clerk's office and put it in the drop box. It's already been checked in too.

(6,228 posts)the gun carrying nuts at the polls in Michigan are a losing plan. Millions of us have voted here in Michigan. A few elections ago MI repubs pushed their voters to vote absentee. Since 2018 we have mail in/drop off voting. So will it be mostly repubs at the polls looking at the gun nuts?

But he's also generated gargantuan turn out in all demographics that oppose him, thus the 2018 blue tsunami. And not much has changed in that regard since the mid terms. Sure, the dumb, racist mother fuckers will turn out, but we will overwhelm them once again.

(21,742 posts)I am so glad to live in Colorado (among other reasons). We have all mail in voting. I got my ballot in the mail and sat at home looking up the various judges and issues at my leisure. Then about 3 days later I brought my ballot to the local drop box where there was no line at all. We don't even have to request a ballot if we are registered to vote and our address is current.
Nothing could be easier.

Democracy dies in apathy, silence, secrecy, fear. You can't have secrecy anymore, and surely not in America.

Meanwhile, rural counties with more plentiful voting precincts per population will probably vote without a care in the world.
I hope these kinds of infection spikes are not a trend in all of the battleground states. We'll still need voters on election day.

(5,810 posts)Exchanging cooties with wild abandon must have come from tRump himself. He has proven himself over and over not to be the brightest bulb on the tree. Leave it to numbnuts himself to devise a plan that almost certainly guarantees a few voters will be sick or dead by Election Day. He comes up with such cockamamie ideas and no one seems capable of talking him out of carrying them out. When the history books are written about this episode in our sordid tale, the historians will probably bust a gut laughing at the sheer stupidity of it all. At least that is how Im hoping all of this plays out. 😳
My husband and I voted already, too. We had a standing order through 12/31 of this year to get our absentee ballots by mail. (Florida voter.) We got them one day, filled them out the next and my husband took them to the post office to mail. I have since checked and both ballots were received and counted. We had plenty of time to account for any delays in getting them delivered. So much for tRumps devious plan to screw up mail in voting. He should have just kept his trap shut. I bet he is a lousy poker player, too.
