Postscript on the Debate

Did anyone else notice that Trump riddled his "responses" to Biden with the familiar (first name) "Joe"?

A few things come to mind:

1. Never once did Biden ever address Trump by his first name, Mr. Trump, or his title. Just ignored confirming his identity.

2. Biden was advised to call Trump by his first name, but deferred. (See #1)

3. In 2008, VP candidate Sarah Palin tried to make herself look unassuming and folksy by addressing Biden as Joe. It would be a friendly chat instead of an adversarial debate. (Oh no, Joe! Say it ain't so!)

Going back to my original thought, Trump calling Biden "Joe" didn't make him look friendly or look like someone he'd even socialize with.

He followed the script, for the most part. Undoubtedly, his team thought long and hard about what to call Donald Trump. They decided not to use his first name (alone). My hope is that the campaign accomplished what it wanted to accomplish (and I have no clue what that might have been).

I would have liked to hear the words “Democrat” and “Democratic” come out of Joe’s mouth. Instead, only Trump used those words, and he tied them to what he describes as poorly-run cities and states. To my knowledge, Joe did not respond to those allegations.
