(38,601 posts)Hunter did not drive drunk from his home in CA to DE to drop off up to 3 water damaged laptops using a forged signature and no contact information, then fail to retrieve them from the legally blind drumpf-loving Mac repair guy.
Rudy, in a photo, displays an LG laptop not even a Mac.
So no, no, a thousand times, no. No.

(2,740 posts)Either he dropped off a laptop or he didn't. I don't think he did, because it make no sense. So why not say something to the effect that "this is completely laughable because I've never been to a computer repair store in Delaware" ? Its almost an admission that something about the story is correct.
FWIW, I think its pretty clear the emails are doctored emails they got from the Russian hack of Burisma and they probably made up the "laptop repair store" angle to cover for the crime that was committed to get the emails.

(36,790 posts)I don't blame him. Trying to prove a negative can be hard. Let the FBI figure it out. Oh and he well may have been at that computer store. May even have brought a laptop for repair. Still doesn't mean THIS laptop is his. See what I mean about the rabbit hole?

(18,359 posts)You just open up another question. It never ends (see Clinton where where legitimate questions about the security of the Libyan ambassador morphed into a fishing exhibition). In her case she was obligated to answer questions because of her position as SoS. Hunter Biden has no such obligation.

(2,740 posts)But at the same time, standing in front of a camera and pointing out how incredibly stupid the story is(California vs Delaware, blind guy, BBF Sticker on it, he never came back for the lap top, etc...) would shut it down completely.
(again, I doubt many people who watch FNC even believe it because its so ridiculous, but still, shut it down)

(3,454 posts)The whole story is ridiculous. Maybe this is another case of Democrats not commenting because the story is obvious bullshit.
Here are things that could be said:
Hunter lives in Los Angeles. Why would he take a laptop all the way across the country to a repair shop owned by a man who is legally blind, who was going to charge him $85 to fix it, and then after he traveled cross-country and dropped it off, he never came back to get it? No one in their right mind would do such a silly thing.
Do they have his signature on something? Did he pay for the service? Is it standard procedure for a repair shop to make a copy of all the files on a hard drive?
Maybe it's just me, but if I had been involved in some shady business dealings with a foreign government, I wouldn't entrust my laptop to a total stranger 3,000 miles away who was charging me a ridiculously low rate to "fix" my machine.

(15,359 posts)It took them awhile to gin this up. If someone got my laptop, it would be real easy to verify it was actually mine. There is no way they thought of everything to make it look legit. I'm no puter guru, but I even know there are all the time stamps and stuff on emails and files.
I hear the Mac repair guys video surveillance just happened to be on the fritz too. So no vid of a guy looking like Hunter at the shop.

(56,198 posts)Just say it's a complete fabrication, just another made up republicans fantasy scandal based on nothing and amounting to nothing.
The only scandal here is that the media still gives these things serious attention, as if republicans had any credibility whatsoever when it came to scandals about democrats. They need democratic scandals to win, so they fabricate them because their policies are so unpopular, that's all they have.

How did the laptop surface?
A computer repair shop owner in Wilmington, Del., named John Paul Mac Isaac has said Hunter Biden left a damaged Apple computer at his shop in April 2019 and asked to recover any data. Mr. Isaac said in an interview with The New York Times last week outside the shop that he is legally blind and could not be sure whether the man was Hunter Biden but asked his name to fill out a work order, and the man identified himself as Hunter Biden. Mr. Isaac said the man came to his shop twice but never returned to retrieve the computer or an external hard drive on which its contents had been stored.
At some point, he decided to examine the material, calling it alarming and embarrassing but declining to discuss specifics. Mr. Isaac also said he made a copy of the computers contents.
How did the F.B.I. learn about the laptop?
Mr. Isaac said he told the bureau. He said he eventually decided to contact the F.B.I. after he began fearing for his safety because he knew what was on the laptop, which The New York Post said included a graphic video. If I was somebody important, I would want to keep some of this stuff private, he said. Nobody wants their dirty laundry aired.
Mr. Isaac said he met with F.B.I. agents in late 2019 and provided them with a timeline of events. The agents returned about two weeks later in mid-December with a grand jury subpoena allowing them to seize the laptop and the external hard drive. The subpoena was signed by a federal prosecutor in the U.S. attorneys office in Wilmington who handles criminal investigations such as fraud, and Mr. Isaac acknowledged receiving it.
The agents also gave him a receipt for what they took, according to a photograph of it published by Fox News. The receipt included an F.B.I. code, 272D, the bureaus internal classification for money laundering investigations, and BA for its Baltimore field office. Officials separately confirmed that the F.B.I. seized the laptop and an external hard drive as part of an investigation, though they did not detail the inquiry or whether it involved money laundering or Hunter Biden. They also confirmed that the agent who signed the receipt works in Wilmington and is overseen by the Baltimore office.
(snip)
What dont we know?
A lot. Mr. Isaac, who said he voted for Mr. Trump in 2016, declined to answer many questions about the laptop and his contacts with the F.B.I. He also would not talk about his communications with the Trump loyalists who orchestrated the plan to make the computers contents public just before the election.
It is also not clear what the F.B.I. did with the laptop or what Justice Department officials knew about the sensitive F.B.I. investigation at the time. F.B.I. officials have declined to discuss the inquiry.

(69,364 posts)His story is.... odd. He receives some water damaged laptops from a customer who doesn't sign any paperwork, just mumbles that his name is, probably, Hunter Biden. No contact info. The laptops are not Macs, but this Mac repairman accepts them and repairs them anyway.
The customer - who may or may not be Hunter Biden, since for some reason the repairman never collected any customer contact info - never returns.
Months later the repairman starts looking around in the files on the computer or computers (not clear to me how many computers feature in this story).
The repairman says he finds things that shock and upset him. So he sits on it for more months. Long about the time Joe Biden wraps up the nomination, the repairman gives the computers to the FBI. He says. We have no proof of this. And then nothing happens.
So the repairman then gives the computer files he's saved (he copied upsetting and shocking information from a customer's computer? Why? Isn't that against the law, on several levels?), anyway he gives the files to... Rudy Giuliani?! Why?! How does he know Rudy?
It's laughable.
