DU misses your wit and wisdom.
I know why you left. It almost chased me away too. The anti-Obama trolls and FUDmeisters had taken over DU2.
But Skinner and EarlG have improved DU3... it is much harder to the trolls to get away with it anymore. The spreaders of Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt (FUD) have a harder time getting away with it now.
DU3 is a safe place to be pro-Democrat and pro-Obama again.
And we miss you, Nance.
I know you are still out there.

(16,380 posts)they must be a regular at OET? Not a good Democrat? You just gave a perfect example of why I don't miss her OP's at all. Because (at least to me) most were divisive and had a very off putting scoldy tone. While perfect for the BOG in GD they were flamefests.
She could come back at anytime and that would be great. However when you craft OPs that insinuate other Democrats aren't as good as they could be or that they just don't get it I would think it would be wise to expect some heat. But she always seemed shocked at the push back. Granted as with everywhere else on the internets some of the pushback was OTT and nasty. But it's the internets.
I have not a doubt that Nance is a great Democrat. However I wonder if she would afford me the same courtesy.
No wonder why all the BOG-ers loved her threads. They were always a variation of "Obama is the best ever, and if you don't love him, you must be a traitor or a repub troll!" every time.
If she comes back, she can fill the role of chief enforcer for the BOG, accusing anyone who doesn't worship Obama of being heretical. It's what she does best.

(16,380 posts)But I will proudly and happily vote for President Obama. He has done many many wonderful things. And as far as I am concerned I will never say "good riddance" to a fellow Democrat. I will disagree but saying "good riddance" is ridiculous.
It has less to do with the former member who voluntarily left DU than with members who are resurrecting PUMA accusations and the ever present "you're not a good Dem because ___x__" crap.

To answer your question at various times there have been random polls at DU on who people thought was the most influential DUer.
Nance would almost always top those polls but would never place lower than 5th.
Her partner in crime, Jeff is an equally talented contributor and for years quietly and selflessly produced the DUzy awards every week.
As to the circumstances why some people left goes to a more contentious time at DU when high profile supporters of the President were identified by folks antagonistic to the President and hounded. Structural changes at DU3 have solved many of the problems that did exist and some highly volumunious anti Obama posters (and eventually found to be trolls) have left improving the tone.
It is not uncommon for people to find DU so engaging that they get overcommitted and burn out and need to step away. Those that made positive contributions, like Nance and Jeff, are always encouraged to come back and resume their DU careers.
Fortunately there are some folks from her new home that post here as well so we continue to get her wisdom on our pages on a regular basis.

(41 posts)now I want to know what's happening in general, so I'm kinda back.
It's not like I can't fathom why people can be frustrated with any leader, but for awhile there it seemed like people were just magically "hoping for change" without actually DOING anything about it themselves.
President Obama is right. Change is a long process, it's uncomfortable, and in politics it starts from the outside (real people, not politicians) and moves inward. But the inside part -- that has to work individually. And I'd say every day we work on this the way we treat people, volunteer, vote, .... you all know... the stuff we do to affect change comes from out hearts. It's a dance, a partnership, a relationship....

(5,405 posts)trolls.
Wrong. His cabinet was mostly made up of asshats like Rahm Emanuel. He and his tool spokesmen attacked liberals regularly and left right wingers alone for a very long time. They would leave liberal ideas out of discussions and refuse to give them a seat at the table as they negotiated with absolutely ridiculously stupid methods (STARTING negotiations at Republicans' original demands and walking them back until the RW had won everything they wanted and still could vote against and campaign against it).
They started winning us back when they finally started to realize that as much as they WISHED for the Republicans to work with them, it was never going to happen. So when Obama's team flipped their anger from liberals to Republicans and we started making inroads on removing restrictions on gay couples and of course Obama started campaigning against the insane greed of the top 1%, yeah we all got back on the same page again.
But of course for those that were backing Obama regardless of his policies or the dicks he had on his team (not unlike the blind loyalty many Republicans had towards Bush) WE were the enemy. They absolutely REFUSED to see how we were treated and how Obama deserved scorn for some of his decisions. So calling all of us trolls is total bullshit. Obama came back to us and we rallied around him. If he had never swung to the Center-Right and had his team go after us, we'd have not gone after him. Also we'd have a MUCH better healthcare plan because he would have negotiated it in a smarter way.
Quick sidenote on health care -
As I have said since the beginning: You START at Single Payer and let the GOP get apoplectic at that and when you walk it back to a public option, it comes across as a serious compromise not saying, Oh well let's give them what they want RIGHT AWAY so FUCK the public option and let's give HMOs a sweetheart deal. You can say all day long that HMOs still lobby against it but they'll spend every dime they can to gain ANY advantage that prevents them from paying ANY benefits out. Know what their new plans are? Making you pay for benefits but having super high deductibles and telling people that their new healthcare has more options. I was in a work meeting where we were told the new healthcare plan was on us. We could "CHOOSE to be sick" and if you're at home not feeling well "it's up to you to be responsible and decide whether or not to go to the doctor or ER." They only cover anything once you're past that huge deductible amount and all doctor payments are out of pocket. Keep yourself healthy and you're covered, was their message. And it's likely fully covered as an acceptable insurance plan under Obamacare. HMOs will still scam their way around this shitty health care plan. They can't turn down pre-existing conditions but they will make things very difficult and very expensive with other schemes.

(5,162 posts)We need that extra dose of " I feel good, I got mine Democrats" that give that all so important view of healthcare reform from Canada. It is amazing how the insight of the financially stable "its my way or the highway" points of view are of such clarity and rarely put forth.
How do we survive knowing that we have not had that wisdom of calling people that do not follow and comply with all of President Obama's programs and points of view republican plants? Not house plants, but in some cases yes.
