The number of new Covid-19 cases in the U.S. for a single day on 10/23/2020

How important is this number?
It is the highest single day number of new cases in the U.S. since the pandemic started.
The previous high was on 7/29/2020 at 79,460.
Almost 3 months and now we are worse than we were on 7/29/2020.

This will keep those of us that keep quarantined(?) to continue to quarantine longer than we should have.

When will people learn?

But hey,
U.S.A., U.S.A, U.S.A, ...
We're number 1!
We're number 1!
We're number 1!

Thursday, France had 41000 new cases, and they have one fifth the population of the USA. That is the equivalent of 200,000 new cases for the USA. Things are getting really crazy over here.

So he can 'win."

Don't you wonder whether putin is bonusing shitstain for deaths & high case numbers? In light of bounties on US troops, I seriously suspect this.

Why else would they be so insistant upon in-person schools? It is not as if red states actually value education, or provide much education, beyond right-wing brainwashing.

The neanderthals in Fox Country don't like wearing masks or being told they can't drunk themselves silly on weekends. Republican politicians don't care if they live or die, but they DO care if their base abstains from voting in massive numbers. Republican election cheating only works when there is a plausible margin of error for a "surprise Republican upset." You could not pull off Bush Jr in Florida (2000) or Ohio (2004) or Trumppence in WI/MI/PA if there is a 15% edge to the vote count for the other side.

So, they care about their voting base for six months every two or four years. For the rest of the time, they can all die of liver damage or Covid-19, the Republicans in office wouldn't care one bit.

Testing, tracing or lack thereoff?

When a country or state reaches the point where the virus seems to be controlled then flares up, it points to a breach of systems. Happened here in Melbourne Au.

as long as the stock market stays high. I stopped watching cable business news shows, they too are part of the problem. The Fed and central banks will keep pumping money into Wall Street and keep interest rates at zero. God forbid we spend the money on small business to keep them closed or keep them partially running to get a handle on this virus. God forbid we spend the money on schools for more teachers and to make class rooms safer. Just keep pumping the money to the 1%. Don't be shocked when we hit Spanish flu numbers.

Makes me ponder. Is there a cause/effect relationship with the booming stock markets of the 1920's and the pandemic of 1918-19? If so, what could be the observable/measurable mechanism? Was the depopulating death count responsible for "extra" household money availability? That'd be cold, eh?

giving Trump a pass just because the virus started in China, so what where it started, let's fix it.

A history lesson; the Spanish flu did not originate in Spain. Where it started is still up for debate, but the first known case was found at a military base in Kansas. The Spanish flu is renown as the greatest virus to hit the planet; 50 million dead world wide and 675,000 dead Americans. People look upon the Spanish flu with horror and yet how soon before Trump tops that 675,000 dead Americans number? Millions of people believe today that we are turning the corner while we just had a record number of infections yesterday.

We have much better medical expertise today than they had in 1918. Sad where the stock market trumps death.

What's not discussed so much is the fact that at every crux he has opted for the most detrimental position. Statements that are exactly the wrong thing for a leader to say in each situation.

Fact: Everybody needs to wear a mask. Trump: Fauci says masks don't work.
Fact: Minimize social contact is required. Trump: Open it all up.
Fact: US cases increasing at frightening rate. Trump: We're doing better than any country in the world.
Fact: Schools will be hotspots for spread. Trump: Get the kids back in school.

The examples go on practically writing themselves. Rationally there are means and methods to "open up the economy" and continue public education which, with a little common sense messaging and a little funding, will maintain the country. While absolutely NO guidance for this comes from the WH, it's all uphill.

Trump is willfully and deliberately destroying the nation. It's the only logical conclusion. I find it amazing, incomprehensible but undeniable. AND I expect that in their inner thoughts Republican leaders, even those that never publicly dispute him, are scared to death.

If he told them to wear a mask, boom, next thing you know, thousands upon thousands of them would be wearing masks tomorrow.

But frankly, anyone that gets and heeds advice about a public health matter from a politician and not a doctor (or even common sense) is a fool to begin with. With the death toll around the world as it is, why WOULDN'T you protect yourself, just in case?

I was in line at a restaurant yesterday, mask on, and a group of 3 older ladies, all sans masks, kept looking at me. One of them finally asked me, "is that some sort of political statement?". I shook my head and said, "no, it's because I'm scared shitless of dying young. I'm afraid it's you that are making a political statement by not using common sense and protecting yourselves from a deadly virus, what, to support a president?" When I talk behind a mask, I cough a lot, which I did at that point, and all of them turned from me and took a step or two in the opposite direction.

Yes, rural Georgia is truly Bizarroland.
