(26,045 posts)...they might be part of some ultra-traditionalist order, of the type that still prays in Latin and regards the current Pontiff, if not the entire Vatican, as "liberal heretics." (Obviously, their ties to the RCC as a whole are somewhat tenuous.) There used to be some of them in western Washington, and their behavior struck me as rather cult-like (one of the loonier aspects of one of those orders is that the Mother Superior ordered them to have a special prayer service at midnight, because that was the hour in which prayer was most needed as it was "the hour in which all the babies are being conceived" ).

(26,045 posts)Could we stop with the insane fundie propaganda from the early 20th century? That line is straight out of the "Moody Bible Handbook," the favorite commentary for religious righties.

These ladies may be imposters or they may just be confused about what Trump really is, but there are any number of nuns in America who have a much clearer idea of what Jesus had in mind.

(10,162 posts)an ultra-right bishop from eastern Europe, currently a bishop in Kazakhstan. He's technically Roman Catholic, but acts like nothing has happened in the world after Vatican II - and he doesn't seem too happy about that either. He wants to go back to the earlier, repressive Church where everyone looked up to the local priest as the most important person in their village, bishops were literally princes, and women knew and kept to their place. I was raised in a pre-Vatican II environment, and this seems extreme even by those standards. They probably think Amy "Covid" Barrett isn't reactionary enough.
It's a very non-intellectual version of Catholicism, one that emphasizes blind obedience to authorities. No wonder they're at a Trump rally.

(10,206 posts)because they care about others. But I actually think this crew is real and that they are from one of those creepy nut orders where they still wear the medieval habit, because LOOKING "holy" is more important than actually emulating the Christ. The older one is fully professed, and the young one is a postulant, in postulant garb. Says a lot about their order that they aren't wearing masks. Oh well, they're now (especially the older fully professed one) being granted the possibility of the chance to meet their Bridegroom a bit sooner than may be expected...
