Not on our generations' watch.

(23,337 posts)have been very vocal about the fact that when they started TLP that they knew theyd never again work in republican politics. It was their intention to burn the trumpism to the ground and they took down the party in the process, so be it.
stopdiggin
(11,370 posts)is there any inkling that they intend to become Democrats -- or start promoting core Democratic values.
I value the service they are providing today -- but that time when the LP devoted a huge media campaign and resources to M4A ? -- overturning Citizens United ? -- I'm still waiting.
MontanaMama
(23,337 posts)MF45, McConnell et al are gone. Thats the focus of TLP. Youre entitled to the opinion that they arent doing enough. I choose to believe they are a force for good.

(11,370 posts)I do think they are a force for good. And I am tickled to death with the role they are playing now in gutting and hollowing out the Republican party (hopefully on some kind of permanent, or near permanent, basis). Where you and I differ (apparently) is that I don't see them eventually becoming Democrats -- and espousing such things as M4A
MontanaMama
(23,337 posts)We will never have a one party system in this country. I dont know if they will eventually be Democrats, independents or whatever. Steve Schmidt is an independent now. Its an evolution.Im interested to see what happens next.

(58,785 posts)They're battling the RW extremism and corruption that took over the conservative party that existed prior to the 1990s and that even purged conservative ideology, weak as it was, itself. The party that once worked with Democrats, had its own progressive wing, and, as Lincoln pointed out, believed in the importance of stability and preserving what had been proven to work well. That's the kind of party they're working to reestablish.
MontanaMama
(23,337 posts)Well said.

(58,785 posts)Whatever. Looking forward to seeing what happens next becoming once again a lot more predictable, and even boring.

The party that once worked with Democrats, had its own progressive wing, tried to keep its determinedly racist faction under some kind of control, and, as Abe Lincoln pointed out, believed in the importance of stability and preserving what had been proven to work well. That's the kind of party they're working to reestablish.

(15,325 posts)5 years of promoting M4A & there STILL is no viable policy plan to put up against ACA.
I'm just fine with TLP standing on the side of improving on the ACA by not touching that topic, rather than tossing it all away for an entirely new Health plan that barely exists outside a campaign speech.
Thanks anyway
I'm quite encouraged by TLP's assist in America's survival on Nov 3rd.
M4A isn't even on the list of what HAS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED in the next week.
Not even a thought.
Joe Biden, "I am not a socialist".
That is why he wiped the board in the primary & THAT is why he just may emerge the victor in Nov .
He is not an extremist that limits his power, & he realizes it will take an entire country on board to build America back better.
TLP knows this as well.

(11,370 posts)and was intended as an example of a Democratic position that (IMO) you won't find the LP promoting (either now, or in any future incarnation). But my point would have been better made using another issue (green energy?, immigration?, minimum wage?). None of which, I suspect, will find LP in alignment with generally held Democratic positions. Or at least they haven't demonstrated any tendencies toward such finer feelings in the past. Does anyone imagine, if G.W.Bush was in the WH right now -- the LP would be engaged in this campaign against the GOP?
Another example would have served the argument better. Point of fact, M4A is NOT a big front burner for me. I happen to be perfectly OK with Joe Biden's stance on a strengthening and reworking of ACA. And I think it was absolutely the right political choice for the moment. As was Joe.
Budi
(15,325 posts)Hopefully with all the Repub groups endorsing Biden, in the end it will be President Biden & we'll all breathe easier & exist with less fear.
Then we rebuild.
Remember, President Joe Biden will be leading this country. Not the LP.

(11,370 posts)Joe Biden will be leading this country -- not the LP. And I think we will all end up being very grateful for that fact.

(10,274 posts)The unspoken part is that they want this as a counterweight to what they see as the rising demographic sympathy or association with the Sanders Wing of the democratic party. If theres a vaccum on the other side because the GOP is electorally destroyed or because all thats left is the q anon loons, they're worried about 'unchecked' social and political progress...and that will mean (I hope) a forced retraction by lawmakers of the power and expense of the corporate state.
And that they DONT WANT, I think.
But theyre at least willing to be agent-operatives of the NOT Know-Nothing Party, and embrace science, skill and reason.
And that's gonna count for a lot the next 2 terms.

(15,325 posts)They have already stated that they know they will Never be welcome back in the Republucan Party that exists today.
They are prepared for that outcome & seek to do their part in dismantling the entire existance as it stands today.
Why would they turn on the Democratic Party Joe Biden sees a future for?
We're on the same page at this moment in time.

One thing about the last 4 years. It burst the boil and revealed the size of the deplorable contingent. Very depressing, but helpful. It enables us to fight more intelligently.
