Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) sounded the alarm to his colleagues on Sunday, a day before Vice President Mike Pence will preside over Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barretts confirmation vote. Pence is set to appear on the Senate floor on Monday despite several of the VPs aides testing positive for COVID-19.
In a Dear Colleague letter issued Sunday before the Senate Republicans voted 51-48 to advance Barretts Supreme Court nomination, setting up a final confirmation vote for Monday, Schumer advised his colleagues against congregating in the Senate chamber in light of several Pence aides contracting COVID-19.
Schumer took aim at Pence, who heads the White House coronavirus task force, for failing to comply with CDC guidelines for self-quarantining.
The Vice President is maintaining his campaign schedule and, inexplicably, intends to preside over the Senate chamber tomorrow evening, Schumer wrote. Their carelessness with the health and safety of their colleagues and Capitol employees mirrors their carelessness with the health and safety of Americans during this crisis.

(25,355 posts)our VP candidate who has access to Joe Biden.
This is a direct threat to our presidential ticket, as well as to our other Senate members - and House members who have dealings with the Senate.
They are willing to sacrifice some of their own in order to get to some of ours. It's like a kamikaze attack.

They are actively trying to infect the Democratic caucus.

(7,045 posts)Maybe Biden will have some appointments to make as a result, which will even out the balance of the court, and then the whole "packing the court" issue will become moot....

(4,919 posts)... And, claim a threat to health and safety of their members. Make a big deal of it, and Barrett will be forever tainted.
At least make everyone be tested with affidavits of good health. McConnell has COVID bruises on his hands and lips.

(9,353 posts)The Democratic Leader in a hazmat suit only talking about the VP unnecessarily showing up to spread Covid. Let the Vote go 52-1 So it is not unanimous but for years when people look back they will know how totally fucked up this whole process is.

We can't go along to get along with these traitors to our Constitution. Recalling how long the Civil War lasted, are we in a second Civil War? In the era of "alternative facts" (quoting Kellyanne Conway), it is all debatable.

(9,724 posts)A person whose intentional or reckless behavior spreads an infectious disease, such as HIV, SARS, or COVID-19, could face criminal charges.
Spreading the common cold doesnt carry criminal consequences. But intentional or reckless behavior that spreads a disease with serious public health consequencessuch as HIV, SARS, Ebola, or COVID-19can result in criminal charges.
A majority of states have communicable disease laws that make it a crime to expose another person to a contagious disease on purpose. Even without a specific communicable disease statute, all states have general criminal lawssuch as assault, battery, and reckless endangermentthat can be used to prosecute people for spreading diseases intentionally or recklessly. And if emergency public health orders are in place, prosecutors can charge people with violations of quarantine and other emergency orders.
Criminal communicable disease laws typically focus on infectious diseases with serious public health implications that spread through contact with an infected persons blood, saliva, mucus, or other bodily fluids. Some states have laws that are specific to a particular disease, like HIV, or a category of diseases, like sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Other states have laws that address communicable diseases generally. These laws and their punishments differ significantly among states.
