Poll: Are you volunteering/donating to the campaign?

Last edited Sun Oct 25, 2020, 09:33 PM - Edit history (1)

Just a quick poll about GOTV for the upcoming election. If you're not already volunteering, please join us for a shift this week. https://www.mobilize.us/
We really need to turn out every last supporter to win. People can say they support Biden to a pollster, but if they don't turn out to vote, it's for naught. Even if you're donating, I urge to take a shift making calls if you are at all able.

Thank you to everyone volunteering and/or donating! Thanks to everyone voting for Biden/Harris!

But I've texted and done postcards. I also ask every random stranger I come across (that looks non-Trumper) if they have voted. Lots of donations to help support those who are doing even more!

GOTV!

Thank you for volunteering! I think the post cards is a great idea. You're braver than I about talking to people I don't know about the election.

People don't answer phones or texts, and frankly get mad (I know I am sick of both) but a postcard is non-threatening, fairly non-intrusive and personal. You can tell they are hand-written (especically wiht my handwriting, lol), east to read and leaves one with a "souvenir" if they care (I received one, and have kept it, with my Biden stuff up in the dining room). The ones I sent were targeted at people who are infrequent and/or last minute voters.

I would've done some door-knocking if not for COVID, so I certainly will do alot more post carding in the future.

It's so much better to have a conversation face to face. But as you say, it's not possible this year. They were dropping off literature, but that's about it.

People would see me walking around and come over and start talking, clapping and cheering me on from their porches. Was great - and that was in rural Virginia.

I just won't phone bank or text bank. I don't believe we should be doing that. It is annoying as hell. Not one person I know appreciates getting a phone call or text.

and today I helped three people figure out how and where to vote. One guy thought he could vote online. I told him where his early voting location was. Without my calls, he wouldn't have known how to vote, and the others wouldn't have known where and when to vote. One woman was going to vote on Nov 6!

The texts drive me bonkers.

There are other ways to volunteer too. Some people are sending postcards, but at this point the emphasis is on calls. I HATE doing phone banking, but I do it anyway.

Thank you for your time and donations!

Visibility on a grassroots level is important. I'll be honest. At first I did it bc I just couldn't stand to not DO something. Once I got started, I can't tell you how many people were so appreciative to see Biden signs up and us piling together to do car rallies. They told me how much it meant for them to see that they were not the only ones in a sea of red where we live.

I'm glad you were able to help some people to vote. That is very important.

the campaigns have determined that they are not very effective. The number has dropped off quite a bit, fortunately. I had to tell a number of PACs to go away. Yes, it is annoying as hell.

I've been enjoying postcarding, as I noted elsewhere. It's much less intrusive and more personal. Data suggests it actually makes a difference.

I made it part of her badge work in learning about voting and the importance of it. It is our civic duty. We drew on it and it looks like little works of art. It was a good experience. I think we will keep doing it as a tradition.

After hundreds of call for hrc I think the majority who answered seemed to be r / dump supporters, why were they on the list? One young hispanic man told me he had already voted for dump and a young woman pretended it wasn't her after she answered the phone. Most of the rest were hrc and had already voted. Some were angry at me for asking if they had voted dem or were going to vote dem etc. I think I only helped one person’s daughter to figure out where to vote. It was VERY unpleasant to say the least.

Most people were not home so I left a message only realizing later we weren’t supposed to do that, it was much more pleasant to just leave a message with voting info.

I also made calls at a center for Gershon. Again a bunch of dump idiots mostly, not home or had already voted for Gershon or were going to. The best part about that was I met an old friend running the show and some other people there.

This year I am only donating.

Most of the callers I talk to are Biden supporters. Though for a while I was calling into a different district in the state, and I would encounter a significant number, but not majority, of Trump voters.

People don't dislike Biden like they did Hillary because, of course, he's male.

Yeah, they aren't fun, but most--definitely not all--are polite enough. One person at the phone bank was actually physically threatened by a Trump supporter. He was understandably shaken.

Sorry he was threatened, that must have been scary. Fortunately there is no way to follow through on it even if it was a serious threat. Actually the worst people I spoke with were the nasty ones who were prolly not dump supporters but who seemed like they were going to not vote etc. The funniest call was a Gershon call where the woman did not know if he was r or d... I was saying I should have told her he was r, lol, we all laughed.

have a small Biden magnet on the back of of my little VW rabbit, in red part of my county. I’m now used to big trucks driving within inches of me and then switching lanes and flooring it to pass me. One truck belched a ton of black diesel while doing so, apparently for my benefit, but didn’t notice that I was turning a right into the shopping center, so totally stunk up the other four cars behind him. Oh well.

Direct deposit every month since Joe became the candidate. I also do a lot of social media work. I've been on media platforms for four years, made it my mission to inform and remind everybody that Trump is a rapist and a pedophile. I've gone after many many false claims and smear pertaining to Joe. I'm good at what I do.
