Baker is a fast man, but wow.


To give you some perspective.

Mostert hit 23.09 and 22.73 (both in 2020)
Hill hit 23.24 and 22.77 (both in 2016)

Mostert is 5'10" and 197 lbs. Hill is 5'10" and 185 lbs. Metcalf is 6'4" and 229 lbs. I think Metcalf has achieved the highest kinetic energy. Derrick Henry at 6'3" and 238 lbs got to 21.62 mph.

Mostert - 4.8 Kilojoules for his highest speed

Particularly online. There are combine test drills that project to each position. Metcalf totally flunked the 3-cone drill and short shuttle, which are change of direction and normally align with wide receiver success or failure.

That's why he dropped so far in the draft. If he had never done that 3-cone drill and short shuttle he would have gone in the first round. There were even draft metrics sites that were listing Metcalf as the most certain bust in that 2019 draft.

Metcalf had worse numbers than Tom Brady in those drills. Now none of the supposed weaknesses are apparent at all. It's an example of more often than not. More often than not those drills will forecast success or failure, but not every time. One of the reasons Metcalf fell so far was that the 2-3 most recent examples of high profile wide receiver flunks in those drills did indeed flop in the NFL:
