I originally posted the article and link below from the daily sabah but was told it was a right wing pro Erdogan source although I thought it still made the Islamists look bad. So I deleted the article but kept the link below and instead am posting an article from the guardian. But there are many articles on this with the same info .
On Sunday, after protests in which the presidents picture was burned and the Turkish leader, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, suggested his French counterpart needed his mental health tested, Macron also responded.
Our history is one of a battle against tyranny and fanatacisms. We will continue, Macron tweeted in three languages, French, English and Arabic.
We respect all differences in a spirit of peace. We will never accept hate speech and we defend reasonable debate. We will continue. We hold ourselves always on the side of human dignity and universal values, the French president added.
Turkey, Iran, Jordan and Kuwait are among Islamic countries to criticise the publication of the caricatures, which originally appeared in France in Charlie Hebdo, sparking a terrorist attack on the satirical newspaper in 2015 that killed 12 people.

(26,044 posts)I mean, I'm as ready to condemn bigotry against Muslims as anybody but, when you're reacting to a radical teen decapitating a teacher, I don't think anyone should be surprised if something stronger than "oh, what a shame" is the response.

There is more anger at Macron then there was against Trump.

Most supporters of PINO are angry about something or other. That doesn't make it justified.

I didn't say their anger was justified. I'm just saying that the anger is pretty widespread across the Muslim world . It's not just some fringe IMams and Mullahs complaining but leaders of countries .
And, I knew where you were going.
I'm thinking Macron can handle himself, and I don't really care what fundamentalist burn be, or political leaders who exploit that fundamentalism have to say.
It's not islamaphobic to point out that the VAST majority of religions don't subscribe to beheading as a solution to insult.
Yet, this happened!

(19,972 posts)Their exchanges have been going on for a while now. I think it started with Macron's criticism of Turkey's aggressive activities in the Mediterranean.

AFAIK Macron has just vowed to do what he can to stop the kind of radical activity that recently led to a radicalized Muslim beheading Samuel Paty, a French middle-school teacher, for simply covering the Charlie Hebdo cartoons in his class. The French public has been in the streets over the incident so it's not surprising that Macron has promised to get tougher.

With Turkey out, NATO is dead.
Europe has been fighting Islam since the 8th Century.

Those cartoons also attacked Christianity and Judaism.

(7,510 posts)As such, there is no basis for including Turkey in the European Union. The EU already has enough problems with Christian extremists in Poland and other Eastern European countries.
The Greeks and Greek Cypriots are European and they have been fighting Islamists in the 20th Century. Then there was that unpleasantness between the Bosnians and the Serbs and Croats.

(7,681 posts)Daily Sabah has been frequently called a propaganda outlet for the Turkish government and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).[2][3][4][5][8] It is owned by a friend of President Erdoğan, and part of his daily routine due to favorable coverages.[9]

Daily Sabah describes itself as "committed to the democracy, the rule of law, human rights and liberty".[11] Despite this official description, Daily Sabah is a mouthpiece of the AKP,[8] and more so a cheerleader for Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the current president of Turkey, and an advocate of Islamism.

Overall, we rate, Sabah Right Biased based on story selection and editorial positions that frequently favor the right-leaning government. We also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to poor sourcing and the promotion of pro-government propaganda. (12/4/2016) Updated (M. Huitsing 5/7/2020)
