Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region Forums70% of requested mail ballots from Dane County (Madison) WI have been returned.
Milwaukee is over 60%.
Please don't get consumed by the negative idea this election is going to be decided by those ballots that come after election day. I know it would be nice to have that cushion to know that even if it's postmarked by election day, it'll be counted, but people need to really not fret.
We're in good shape. Great shape, in fact, with a week left.

(9,647 posts)Especially when it looks like the Republican WOW counties are at 80% returned.. Maybe some of those people have decided that they are going to vote on election day instead, or maybe some are still in the hands of USPS.
But, as the saying goes, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

(34,857 posts)The highest is 75% for Kewaunee County, however, that is a small county (10,000 people). It did go Trump in 2016 but the other 70%+ counties are all counties Hillary won in 2016.

(9,647 posts)People that follow WI politics would likely know the acronym:
W aukesha Co. ~ 400,000 people that goes 70-30 Republican
O zaukee Co. ~ 90,000 people that goes 70-30 Republican
W ashington Co. ~ 140,000 people that goes 75 -25 Republican
These are the suburban Milwaukee counties that continue to buck the trend of suburbs trending blue - because there are a lot of racists in these counties. Combined, they have more people than the City of Milwaukee and turnout at 80%+ regularly.
As for my number....

They added the total outstanding mail in ballots in the country yesterday, but I think most of that is California, Washington, and other states that are strictly mail in voting.
Iowans seem to have the best track record for returning their ballots. 80%+ for many of the counties

(459 posts)No one should put another ballot in the mail for this point on, especially in big Democratic cities where it will be intentionally slowed. There's a week left, plan a day this week to drop your ballot off at a county clerks office or a drop box that you've double checked is official if there are any of those in your local communities. Or if you don't have time for that then just vote in person on Election Day. Just make sure you make your plan now and do not put it in the mail.

(47,423 posts)OH will only let people vote provisional on election day if they requested an absentee ballot. People definitely need to know the rules of their specific state. Otherwise they could be up for a nasty surprise on election day.

(459 posts)Study up on all the rules and make a plan. For instance my state allowed my mom to drop off my ballot and my dads ballot along with hers. I'm not sure if every state allows that or if that's considered "harvesting". So people may need to plan times for everyone in the family to drop off together or individually.
I don't understand those who are waiting up until the last minute to get their ballot in. Super frustrating. I don't care about polls, as we know from 2000 and 2016 we need EVERY vote to go through. Hope Dems in Milwaukee, Detroit, and Philadelphia are canvassing the local areas for those who are lower income or lack transportation and organizing rides for them to county clerks offices so they can drop off their ballots. We need Democratic leaders in those cities and other Blue cities/counties in those battlegrounds to report to us right now what's going on and any help folks in those areas need. That's probably a more worthwhile investment for any remaining campaign money at this point than another week of campaign ads.

My ballot in Miami was mailed on Tuesday, arrived on Thursday, but didn't show up in the system until Friday or counted until the following Tuesday
