(40,076 posts)Over 10 percent of the population was killed. We're not going to get off scot-free from trump.
And if we keep him for 4 more years, many millions will die, life expectancy will be lowered.
If I was young and looking to make a career choice, then I would go for the funeral industry. In particular, there will be a tremendous demand for low cost, low frills services.

(12,533 posts)A million dollars and he ultimately died. We have people surviving with long-term health complications as well.
The cost of these lives, the deaths and the multitude of compromised patients is staggering.
I listened to Dr. Rick Bright this afternoon. He's an immunologist and former public health official, one of the earlier whistleblowers over the fiction of pushing hydroxy as a preventative medicine for Covid. He reiterated that the Trump Administration has failed completely to protect the country and our citizens. The outbreaks we're seeing now are only going to get worse. Death rates will go up accordingly.
We're in for a long, harsh winter.

(6,403 posts)How much would likely be covered by insurance?
Losing her husband and getting hit with a massive bill - stuff of nightmares.

(55,138 posts)in 2016 the bill was $34,000. The ACA paid for $30,000 and I had to pay the rest out of pocket, $4,000 (almost 2 months of my income).
That is $1,000 a day with insurance 4 years ago. When the ACA is killed we will be in big trouble, at least I will be.

(6,403 posts)can only boggle at your (meaning all non or under insured folks) situation which IMO is almost tantamount to a crime against humanity.
I can't imagine living like that...

The sister of a friend of mine slipped and shattered her hip while visiting a casino in Vegas. Bill came to about $50K. She had no travel insurance. Nightmares indeed...

(55,138 posts)Before the ACA I could only get temporary insur through my employer but I had to pay the full amount since I was on 25% leave. I couldn't get health insur at all due to a preexisting condition. I was lucky to be able to get the insur through my employer. I had to pay $30,000 for two years health insur while I was making $1,200 a month teaching. I paid more to the insur than I was earning. Two years later the ACA was passed and that saved my life since I had to stop teaching due to my health.
I read a story about a foreign exchange student from Sweden who was bitten by a snake and had to get venom to save his life. His hospital bill was $250,000. Fortunately for him he purchased additional insurance before he came to the US. His friends back home couldn't believe how fucked up our system is.

(6,403 posts)In my considerable life-time, I've had five major hospital medical procedures, all completely covered here by universal medicare. I can't imagine where I would be now without that coverage.
