1. If you haven't opened it yet, you can choose to go to in-person voting and hand in the unopened ballot package in exchange for being allowed to vote in person (early or on the day).
2. If you already opened the ballot, fill it in, sign and date it, make sure any witness signatures needed (and yours) are on the outer envelope, and take it to the offices of the county/locality registrars, hopefully long before the polls close on election day. At least one drop box has already been vandalized. And USPS has had suspicious delays. I had instructions for a medical procedure 15 miles away dated 8 days before the procedure and arriving the day before. Fortunately, the nurse call a few days before the procedure told me what to do in time to do it.

(47,423 posts)You really can't give general advice like that because it's not true for every state. They won't let you vote on election day in OH even if you bring in your absentee ballot, you can only vote provisional.

(27,640 posts)It's too late to mail your ballot, especially with the packed SCOTUS seemingly determined to enforce "must be received by election day" rules despite what your own state may promise. If you haven't sent your ballot in, your best options now are to use a secure dropbox or, preferably, taking it directly to your local elections office and handing it in.
The polling for this election isn't close, but the one way Trump can win is if we don't make sure all our ballots are in and ready to be counted by election day. Every ballot that gets invalidated or doesn't come in on time is another step toward a replay of 2016.
