Call them the secret Biden voters.
Political observers say there is a group of voters that has emerged in this cycle: Republicans who have never supported a Democratic candidate not for the city council, Congress or president who suddenly find themselves set to vote for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
And they dont want anyone to know it.
In 2016, some strategists concluded that a number of voters were secretly voting for Donald Trump but were not getting picked up by pollsters.
This year, strategists are wondering about Biden voters in red states and counties who are not waving signs and are keeping their views relatively quiet, but who could help the former vice president not only win states such as Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, but also other states Democrats lost to Trump in 2016, such as Iowa, North Carolina and Georgia, where the vice president visited on Tuesday.
There is a lot of evidence that they do exist and theyre everywhere, one Biden ally said.

The Florida Republican who spoke anonymously to The Hill also feels pushed into a corner by Trump.
I never ever thought Id support a Democrat. Its not who I am, the Republican said. But this was the only option.

(3,960 posts)and all down-ballot republicans.
She got really turned off to Trump in the first debate.
Why is she voting for republicans? She says because she is a republican.
We were glad to get the Biden vote. More was too much to ask for. There's not enough logical brain there for us to go deeper.
Largely, people vote based on their emotions and identities, not facts and reasoning.
spot on with the last sentence.

Crap in your pants? No. That's training.
Vote Republican? Yes. That's training too.
Know your priest is a pedophile but tithe anyway? Yes. Can't undo years of training.
A lot like toilet training. To pass up the polls on election day would be a traumatic event. Will "vote at any cost" sort of compulsive behavior. Nothing to do with reasoning or objective perusal of facts. No coincidence that religious and military types are "uniformly" bent toward Republicans. Faith and obedience, both, embody thought-void, knee-jerk response, reactionaryism.
It's not conservatism. It's susceptibility to instruction by rote. The root word usages of train includes "retinue", a line, a connected series of things. Conservatism is when your whole focus is on the rear of the person in front of you, never questioning the legitimacy of other possibilities. It's when you follow, like a lemming. It really is the absolute opposite of Progressive, which is itself "liberal" in the sense of liberation from physical and intellectual constraint. A progressive will probably be leading the line and liberals will probably strike out on their own.
It's no criticism really. Republicans can, after all, be good pets and they will eat you when you die.

- NC
- florida
- texas.
- Iowa
- georgia
- Pennsylvania
- Michigan
- wisconsin
then add in the democats who voted for trump in 2016 and they flip to Biden?
just saying and why to think this is a close election is silly BUT WE MUST PILE IT ON

(56,828 posts)I'll see if I can find it later (I'm working now), but it had 8% of 2016 Trump voters now voting for Biden... and, only 1% of Clinton 2016 voters now voting for Trump. That's the real #WalkAway movement.

(3,245 posts)is very little support for down ballot R's. You'll see the Trump signs, but not for the congressional candidates.

(12 posts)Here in the northwest Atlanta suburbs the unprecedented is happening with yard signs.
In previous Presidential election years I rarely saw signs for the Democrat. If one went up, it would disappear quickly.
This election cycle I'm seeing an equal number of Biden signs vs the orange doofus signs. The signs aren't being stolen!
I'm cautiously optimistic!

(3,841 posts)Southern Wisconsin was loaded with Trump signs in 2016 out in the rural areas and small towns. I drove from Madison to Kenosha on Friday on the local highways and didn't see nearly as many. There were more houses with just the local race signs in the yard. There was an equal number of Biden signs including one stretch through a small town where it looked like the local Democratic leadership got most of the homeowners on the main drag to put out signs.

(18,536 posts)they do indeed talk about a hidden Trump vote . . . but there are a lot more hidden ANTI-TRUMP votes, imho . . . we'll see who was right come November 3, or shortly thereafter . . .

(1,309 posts)I think this is very probable.
Every time I read about the "shy" trump voters, I have my doubts. I consider far more likely a scenario of a senior couple. The husband loves his guns, hates anyone who isn't white, and is a rabid MAGAt. The wife, who has been hit more than once by her husband and is afraid of him, is tired of trump getting her husband all riled up. She wants trump gone. And when she is alone in the voting booth, she casts her vote for Biden. Women can tend to be a lot smarter than MAGAt men (aside from Karens, of course), more aware of what's really going on. And they are alone in the voting booth.

(432 posts)Freud called it a reaction formation - or the opposite to what you want.
Subconsciously, even the most diehard Trump cultist knows he wouldn't wipe the soles of his shoes on them. Therefore, almost like an S&M desire to see Trump stripped of his power could take hold in the voting booth.
On some level they'd love to see Trump arrested, shackled, impoverished, and in prison with his baldness and skin laid bare, in a prison jumper, no access to women....and biggest of all, ordered around by PoC prison guards.

(5,334 posts)based on a whole list of promises that you and other people swallowed without question:
(Mistake 1: believing in promises from a politician. Or a used car salesman. Or a snake oil salesman.)
And then wait patiently for those promises to materialize:
(Mistake 2: Not watching if any action is actually undertaken straight after the election.)
And then get disheartened by the lack of progress on those promises:
(Mistake 3: Not watching closely, thinking it will all happen soon.)
Then, after 4 years, you may come to realize those golden promises actually were fool's gold, sprinkled sparingly on a long path to the voting booth, just to get you there.
(Mistake 4: Not realizing that really it was fool's gold, and that the wind would soon blow it away.)
Then, being of (somewhat) sound mind, and (somewhat) good at remembering what you were promised, and being (somewhat) observant about the zero action on those promises over the years, you may just change your vote to the opposite.
. . . . but you'd keep quiet about it, because being so easily deluded, dudded, and lied to, just feels embarrassing.
Gullible people won't admit to it, but hopefully they have learnt that Trump is just not good for them, their neighbors, and the country.
And needs to go, be short circuited, and be escorted off the White House lawns and out of our lives as an undesirable influence.
