A guard asked two sisters to put on a mask. They stabbed him 27 times

When Jessica Hill and her sister, Jayla, tried to walk into a shoe store in Chicago on Sunday, a security guard asked the pair to put on masks and use store-provided hand sanitizer.
Instead, prosecutors said, they refused and brutally attacked the guard, with Jayla, 18, eventually grabbing the man’s hair while Jessica, 21, stabbed him 27 times.

It’s the complete randomness of this. It’s terrifying,” Judge Mary C. Marubio said Tuesday in the hearing, which was live-streamed on YouTube, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The sisters were arrested at about 6:15 p.m., according to police, and the security guard was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital. The guard was in critical condition

The Chicago case is the latest incident of violent confrontations breaking out over mask rules. In September, an 80-year-old man in West Seneca, N.Y., died days after another man allegedly shoved him for asking him to wear a mask in a bar. A couple in Los Angeles was charged with murder in July after a confrontation with a maskless man turned deadly. A stabbing during a fight over masks at a grocery store in Eaton County, Mich., that same month resulted in two deaths.

"The guard was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for 27 puncture wounds that did not require surgery or stitches, authorities said."

The original article said he was in critical condition.

Not sure I believe the bi-polar defense. She was carrying a knife in her hair.

They're two stupid mindless black teenage girls. Has nothing to do with Trump.

I'm black. I hate and cry when African-Americans commit brutal crimes - not because I expect every one of us to be perfect, not because I think our percentage of violence or mental illness is any less than other groups, and not because I feel any less for the victims in any way, but America doesn't treat their brutality equally. Just google their names - Jessica Jayla Hill. Didn't even have to type beyond "Jessica J" before 7 newspaper articles popped up about them. Yet these, I missed completely:

"The Chicago case is the latest incident of violent confrontations breaking out over mask rules. In September, an 80-year-old man in West Seneca, N.Y., died days after another man allegedly shoved him for asking him to wear a mask in a bar. A couple in Los Angeles was charged with murder in July after a confrontation with a maskless man turned deadly. What happened here? Don't know their names, but if I did, if I googled them, would they pop up automatically? I'm on my break from working, so I'll google later.

And yes, these girls need to be treated to the extent of the law, and I'm praying for that poor guard's life.

refusing to wear masks?

Being black doesn't preclude them being influenced by Trump. "Stupid mindless" is who his messages are aimed at, and that includes a teenager and a 21 year old, whether or not they're black.

It seems strange to dismiss the huge anti-mask push, led by Trump, that has gone on for months, as having nothing to do with 2 people who freaked out at being to to wear a mask or not come in a store.

Are you saying that no one listens to Trump these days?

So, let's get this straight. These two teenagers - who stabbed this man 27 times - who may live in a poor neighborhood, or maybe not, have been watching tweets of lunatic white magats beating up people and attacking them for being asked to wear masks, and they say, gee, I want to be JUST like that!? And if they do use internet / phone to see all that ugliness, and take opportunities to LOOK IT UP and WATCH IT WITH deep INTEREST, THAT'S what this 18 year old and this 21 year old teenager decide to do, just waiting be asked to wear a mask so they can stab somebody for it? That's how they spend their time? Seriously?

Who said anything about "watching tweets of lunatic white magats beating up people and attacking them for being asked to wear masks"?

No, they've heard and read idiots for months on social media, or TV, saying masks are bad, no one should be forced to wear one, they are a plot to remove liberty and precious bodily fluids etc. If you have looked at the news some time over the past few months, you'll have heard about it too.

And, being idiots, they agreed with the anti-mask BS. And when a guard tried to stop them entering the store, they got mad, and, being armed with a concealed knife, attacked him. Your idea that they were "waiting be asked to wear a mask so they can stab somebody for it" is bizarre. They wanted to go in a store. And they weren't going to wear a mask to do it. They have an awful violent streak that makes them a public danger.

You are from the UK. I am a lifelong deep anglophile - I even wrote a screenplay about the Battle of Hastings. So not going to let you piss me off for not even considering that these girls are simply violent. I'd like to think they will seek redemption someday. Other than that, end of debate.

So this ends this conversation. Take care.

At the bond hearing on Tuesday, the sisters’ court-appointed attorney argued the first-degree attempted murder charges were too extreme because they were acting in self-defense and have bipolar disorder, according to the Chicago Tribune. The sisters have no criminal record.

The attorney also said the women had not planned to attack the guard. But the judge said she was concerned by the “sheer number” of stab wounds.

And, I resent that they try to use that as a defense ... it stigmatizes a mental health issue.

There's a growing body of research on this topic. They might explain a lot of the craziness we're seeing in this country.

COVID-19-Induced Psychosis and Suicidal Behavior: Case Report
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7519695/

... a growing body of evidence suggests that the virus itself can precipitate psychosis among infected individuals (1). Emerging neuropsychiatric sequelae of COVID-19 include encephalopathy, anxiety, depression, mania, and trauma-related disorders (2). The potential for the virus to induce psychosis is of particular interest given the association with acute suicidal/homicidal ideation and other severe perceptual and behavioral disturbances.

...

A connection with psychosis has been described in other strains of coronavirus, including the species responsible for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV). Common symptoms observed in SARS-related psychosis include persecutory delusions, auditory hallucinations of gossip, suicidal thoughts and behavior, and sleep disturbances (3). One survey of recently discharged SARS patients found that disease severity—as measured by chest radiograph on admission, maximum oxygen requirement, need for ICU care, and length of hospital stay—was an independent predictor of new onset psychosis and behavioral problems in both the acute and convalescent stages of illness.

Compared with SARS patients without psychiatric complications, SARS patients with new onset psychosis had higher rates of family history of psychiatric illness, as well as higher rates of concurrent SARS infection in family members. This data suggests that personal vulnerability and psychosocial stressors may contribute, in part, to the psychosis associated with coronavirus infection. ... Another study found that patients with new onset psychosis have a significantly higher seroprevalence of IgG antibodies against four human coronavirus strains (229E, HKU1, NL63, and OC43) compared with non-psychiatric controls. These findings suggest that coronavirus exposure may be a risk factor for development of psychosis in susceptible individuals.

I think most of these cases are people who are just looking for a confrontation.

There are signs plastered all over the place stating that masks are required.

I have noticed a lot of stores have guards now. They are afraid their employees could get hurt by these crazies.
