Passenger hanging out van window falls and dies after killing bicyclist, Vegas cops say

A man died after Las Vegas police said he hung out of a car and struck a bicyclist, killing her.

On Sunday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of two people who had been hit by a car, according to a news release. Police said they arrived and found a woman and man, who died at the location of fatal incident.

The man was the passenger in a car driven by 22-year-old Rodrigo Cruz, police said, and he leaned out of the window, pushing a female bicyclist to the ground. The man then fell out of the car and collided with a light pole. Officers apprehended Cruz, who is accused of fleeing the scene before law enforcement arrived.

Investigators said the passenger in Cruz’s car initially tried to hit two pedestrians on the sidewalk by hanging out of the minivan, but missed before hitting the bicyclist, according to KSNV.

5. The Clark County Coroner's office identified the cyclist as 56-year-old Michelle Weissman and the

second suspect as 20-year-old Giovanni Barajas, both of Las Vegas.

8. Once when I was riding my bike in the 1970s, that happened to me. A guy leaned out

of th passenger side of a passing fad and smacked me hard on my head. I swerved hard and nearly fell off the bike.

I didn't ride my bike again for quite awhile after that. Too nervous.

But every year, several times people on the passenger side (usually teenagers) will scream into my ears as I am passed.

Due to mostly the doppler effect on sound, by the time it gets to my ears, it sounds like "Grajf ub ur!" or similar.

I can imagine then the teenagers in their car doing a "Beavis and Butthead" laugh.

11. It's happened to me a couple times

Once was two yahoos in a truck. Another time was disturbing. A teenage kid leaned out the window trying to scare me by yelling right next to me. The driver was a middle-aged woman. I assumed she was his mother and she was laughing. Way to raise a kid, mom.
