President Donald Trump said Wednesday he hopes courts will step in to prevent states from counting ballots after Nov. 3, when he is demanding winner in the presidential election be declared.
Trump made the comment in Nevada from a brief availability at his Las Vegas hotel, on a West Coast swing where he hopes to chip away at Joe Biden's lead in state polls amid a nationwide early vote and mail voting surge.
'We'll see what happens at the end of the day. Hopefully it won't go longer than that [Election Day]. Hopefully the few states remaining that want to take a lot of time after November 3rd to count ballots, that won't be allowed by the various courts,' Trump said.
His comment expressing a desire to have courts prevent states from counting votes after Election Day goes beyond earlier comments complaining about a potentially prolonged count.

"Keep counting! Keep Counting! There must be more in there for ME!"
There is NEVER a full and final count of all ballots until days after any election.

(25,426 posts)He's just playing dumb, as usual. States get to decide how they run elections and every state has laws concerning when votes are counted. Roberts has already indicated that courts don't set election law.

In Pennsylvania:
There are two requirements about when to submit your absentee ballot.
You must affirm that you mailed your ballot no later than 11:59 pm on the day before Election Day.
The County Election Office must receive your ballot no later than 7 days after Election Day by 5 pm.

(6,455 posts)I think it isn't this simple.
Originally, we all wanted paper ballots, because they couldn't be hacked. So, we had a rush on voting by mail. And he complained about that.
Then, he put his buddy in there to screw up all the balloting. So, that guy broke all, or many, of the processing machines. So, there were issues with getting your ballot.
Now, he wants all the voting cut off on November 3rd. I think it's possible that he is doing something to the machine voting, and doesn't want a bunch of Biden votes coming in to beat his hack. Well, it could happen.
He's still got a chance to screw with the Electors as well. They are who really count. I have heard all the arguments about how it can't possibly happen, but I believe it can. I believe that all this is window dressing for a screwed up count where he can purloin the Electors.
So, I'll be really happy to hear the media analysts declare Biden the winner, but by no means will it be over on Tuesday.
When I was a soldier, I adhered to overseas deadlines, but the Pres was declared long before my vote could ever have been counted. So, I know how those military members are going to feel.
