I have to admit, I thought things were going to be a lot uglier by this time (the week before Nov3).

I expected violence from MAGAs, Trump and Barr make preparations to arrest politicians, etc.
I guess anything is still possible, but I thought for sure it would have be absolutely crazy by this time.

McConnell was already trying to distance himself from Trump (most notably, on CV) some time ago. He still pushed all of the judges forward, of course, but that's always been part of his agenda, perhaps even more than Trump's.

The problem is that much of the hype came from our side. We let ourselves believe the scorched earth nonsense that Trump and his minions have been spewing. We bought into the hysterics and doom-and-gloom predictions. I can't count how many DU threads start with "Trumps says...." When did we start believing Trump?

In fact, we're still doing it - there's are dozens and dozens of threads still assuming the absolute worst for every contingency and every stage of the election process. It's grown beyond tiresome.

I think for me it's because of what happened in 2016, though. I was 100% Hillary was going to win.

I didn't think Hillary was going to win 100%. I was scared as hell when Nate Silver was trying to warn everyone that Trump was trending and that the race was suddenly 70/30 and probably closer. I still thought Hillary was going to win, but my confidence was shot and I was uneasy going into it.

But this isn't 2016. It's more like 2018. There are no signs of a repeat of 2016. It could actually be even worse for Trump that it appears at present.

I just don't get the hysteria. Suddenly, after 30k lies, "we" believe everything Trump says. When he says that he's going to get the SC to appoint him president, ignoring all available evidence, we buy into it 100%, even though the suggestion is ludicrous, Amy or no Amy.

That being said, I've been here at DU since nearly the beginning, and this happens every cycle so I really should be used to it by now. I suspect that some of the more ardent doom-and-gloomers have ulterior motives. There are always some of them around at this point of the election. I might just have to take the week off and return election night.

than trump who is all talk, and barr who now knows trump is going to lose and isn't going risk his neck for him.

The thugs will cause some problems on and after election day but it won't last once they see trump's admin isn't going to back them up with unmarked troops.

Barr I'm not as concerned about and I could be wrong. If he knows he has a replacement coming in 2 months and his actions will be evaluated legally he is probably going to back off.

Trump inspiring the militias to go commit hate crimes. That isn't outside of the realm of possibility. If they act up now it wouldn't be good electorally for him.

Barr goes all in on the safe things but has carefully refrained from taking actions that could land him in the pokey. The FBI has stood firm.

As for his nutty followers, most could not organize a kool-aid stand. They are internet warriors. And while the police have lots of problems, not many jurisdictions are going to let armed red necks run amok.

If trump loses, and it is still if, I expect a few isolated alcohol fueled incidents resulting in dead and arrested racist rednecks.

But they are not going to storm city hall or state capitals. If they try they will be dead.

kind of put a stop to some things. Barr may not have known and been surprised .

A bunch of Trump admin people came down with Covid and all the weirdness with Trump.

We are also getting into colder weather and virus is getting worse.

All the things about Trump that came out.

The Hunter Biden thing was a joke and even more so with Borat and Giuliani.

Biden and Harris both doing well in the debates.

It's more that they have failed and our side has stayed mostly strong.

And Trump just sucks.

It’s a lot more “Every man or woman for themselves.” If they had any honor they wouldn’t have gotten into the jam they are in. Gonna need a BIG bus to get over all the bodies.
