Bad Thoughts
(2,522 posts)Ask your friend if they are spending more money, then ask them how much more wealth they have.
Chances are they having been spending more to maintain rather than having more.

(90,762 posts)Nah. They ain't listening. That's fake news. Words need not match reality for them. Not even when their own wallet is lighter by far.
Ever try explaining viral shedding to a Trumper? Their eyes literally glaze over. Then they get this look on their face and claim that can't be a real thing.
I can direct them to the tweets but leading a person to knowledge won't make them think.
Still, very helpful information and explanations.
Thank you!

(59,501 posts)or graphs. Time, that means that neither the Trump boast or the valid analysis in the responses will not have anywhere near the impact as what they see.
Biden has spoken of the k, not v, shaped recovery. Even people fortunate enough to be in the upper branch of the k likely see people in their town struggling as restaurants and other small businesses struggle. Even in states that have done better, main street this year was not the lively place it was the year before.
Consider Trump gained some non college educated white males who thought the Obama economy was poor - even though a graph would show that he kept the economy from going off the cliff and had a steady eight year recovery.
How will those same people respond if he does a victory round on the economy today? They are very likely in the lower branch of the k.

(19,972 posts)Depending on whom he has been able to install/bribe/intimidate/coerce for yet another quid pro quo and a big "October surprise" a few days before the election.
And remind me...how many tens of thousands of Americans have been sacrificed for this "number"?

(24,406 posts)This might be a bigger deal but it just begs the question of how many people have died to make this possible. I doubt that most people will consider this a reasonable sacrifice for a slightly recovering economy.

(64,995 posts)Huh? Exactly who constitutes this consensus?
There is consensus among economists that after the first month with cases spiking almost everywhere, that GDP will have 4% annualized growth?
Maybe in the offices of the RNC.
There are plenty of economists not expecting much beyond 1% for until at least 2Q21.
So, not sure "consensus" is the right word.

(9,136 posts)it has been proven that he hasn't politicized it by installing his hacks and cronies.
I know there are a lot of good, objective civil servants out there, but we just got to assume that everything Trump has touched is tainted.

(17,186 posts)... had GDP growth almost as high as the sainted Ronald Reagan.
The Seventies sucked? Well, maybe while Republicans were in charge.
