10 Things to know if you have to talk yourself down

Last edited Fri Oct 30, 2020, 02:31 PM - Edit history (1)

Hi Friends. It's been four years since I last posted on DU. Thanks to all of you for your insight, humor and company. Even though I was quiet, I was here all the time. I'm sure there are legions of silent admirers who are like me. So thank you all for what you do. (Except the trolls. They can f*ck off.)

So let me get to my points.

Anxiety is high. If you find yourself about to lose it, here are ten ideas to keep in mind.

1) Third party effect: At this time four years ago polls were showing Johnson support at close to 6% and he wound up getting 3% of the vote. These were the shy Trump voters. This time around there is no such scenario.

2) Let's also remember that one perhaps would be ashamed to vote for candidate "grab em by the p*ssy." Republicans now have fallen right in line and aren't self conscious anymore about this. Their BS refrain? Trump's behavior is outrageous but Biden is senile. Another reason to worry less about shyness affecting polls.

3) Dems have a consistent lead in mail return rates. Across the board Dems are returning their ballots faster than Rs. This suggests greater enthusiasm. Yeah, problems I know, but give me my silver lining.

4) Way fewer undecideds than in 2016 to late break.

5) Huge advertising and cash advantage for Biden the last 30 days to help sway these straggler undecideds

6) Dems control the firewall states. Remember that lady in Florida in 2000 with the crazy ass lipstick? Her analog in Wisconsin, Mich and Penn is a Dem.

7) Can you imagine a scenario where the election occurred after the first Covid wave? Trump's approval went way way up in March and he was the big fat hero. At least voters headed to the polls have all the information they need to know that they screwed this one up. If they don't care about legions of people dying, they were never going to vote Biden anyway. The story of this election is "It's the pandemic, stupid." And Covid response now is hugely a Biden issue.

8) Tucker Carlson humiliated himself and Barr is MIA. No Comey this year around. The October surprise was in Rudy's trousers. (I actually think Borat is the best political closing argument of all time.)

9) Live betting markets have been drip dripping every day Biden's way. The online comments from the MAGA crowd on these sites are getting increasingly deranged. It's fun to see. Check out predictit. May not mean anything but it will make you feel better.

10) In 2016 there was no flamethrower outfit like the Lincoln Project. HRC got swiftboated, let's be honest. Outfits like the Lincoln Project and RVAT have done a good job to suppress that nonsense this time around. They also have been effective counter punchers. Sorry to end this giving the Rs any credit, but I put them last in line for a reason.

So hit me your best, "Polls don't matter, Vote!" I can take it. All I'm saying is this list might make you feel a little better. Think of it as my way to say thanks to stinky the clown, your momma and the rest of y'all.

Cheers.

And including your points.

So, while nothing will make me feel much better unless & until the Crooked Trump Admin has been voted out, your post helped as much as anything short of that ousting could do.

Thanks.

the freaking out is not doing anybody any good, and if anything, they're harming moral (imho).

I suspect too, that trump has screwed himself so wacky, made himself so crazy and comes up with such nonsense on such a regular basis that he has only himself to blame, no one else. I don't think anybody with any common sense would want such a fruitcake guiding our Country anymore.

Let him go back to his damn golf courses, that's obviously where he belongs, and certainly not in the WH. The grand experiment is over and done with, and all of those who wanted a change in the WH, a change in government got their chance. Problem is, they (RWNJs) could have easily picked someone w/ far better credentials to be president than this moron in the WH. What in the world happened? God, what a mess. Okay, moving on, the RWNJs shot their wad and failed miserably, so move on. Everybody sees how incompetent trump is. He did, after all, declare bankruptcy six times. You listened to him unfiltered for the last four or so years and heard him for yourself. If you're still supporting this scumbag, then you are truly suffering from PTSD and need help.

If you’re not worried, then you’re not worried, right? Or is your confidence so shaky that an anxiety laden post can cause you to falter? Makes no sense.

Many have 2016 hangovers. We all know many factors are different now, but we also know the resident is a crook, his family are crooks, his closest staff are crooks, his attorney general is a crook. Not to mention he’s Putin’s puppet. All plenty of reason for people to feel anxiety.

If I see posts I don’t like, I skim on by, but I see nothing wrong with people expressing their worries here.

If worried posters harm your morale, perhaps you’re not feeling as confident as you say. I’m quite optimistic, but I’m not counting any chickens just yet.

about me. Yes, I understand that many have 2016 hangovers, but it is 2016...not today. I understand the posting of concerns and such, but one should be considerate of others and their feelings too? Or, am I wrong (per your note)...after wall, when one does write something or post something, they are not just writing for themselves but the audience, aren't they?

There was a blip down for him during his Covid hospital stay but now that he has (recovered) he's back to where he was post convention.

October 20, 2018 he was at 53.3 dis 42 approve. He's at 52.9 43.6 approve now. Amazing to see that impeachment and Covid have made his approval go up 1.6%. Fricking Rs come home no matter what. It is impressive to see them get in line for another shite sandwich.

#s were year end 2017 (one poll down to 36) when my hero Steve Cohen D - TN introduced brilliant, all encompassing articles of. impeachment on Nov 15. All that was missing was Ukraine which we didn't know about yet.

will be decided by lawyers, courts, and Congress. That's where Barr is hiding. All the rest is aimed at public opinion and voting.

I have a feeling we'll lose some we thought we'd win, and win some we were doubtful about.

I'm hoping we bag Texas because that is pretty much game over. If Beto can't do it, nobody can.

because we would need 67 votes in the Senate, which we won't have. But Biden's going to win so the point is moot.

They manage to screw up that too, right?

The Lindsey Graham going down in flames, that looks like a good indicator to me?
That is the race I will be looking at on Tuesday, if he is still re-elected, this could be a long night+.

trump has done nothing to gain more supporters. In fact, he's lost more supporters than he could ever gain from the wayward white supremacist coming around to his side. This time around republicans are out loud and proud about why they're voting against trump.

As we've all said from the beginning, a used q-tip would make a better president than trump and most of us know it.

He's not going to win.
