a Trump victory despite overwhelming polling indicating he is losing.

Polls do differ in their integrity and reliability and it is difficult to consider some of them anything other than paid-for propaganda.

Meaning, “if this is that way, or if this happens, then will that poll be right. Or does this mean x?

Polls are just polls. Never believe them wholly or disbelieve.
