NEW: With just a few days left before Election Night and the president trailing in numerous state and national polls, Donald Trump’s inner circle is increasingly whispering the same thought: Our guy blew it.

Trump’s Inner Circle Braces for Disaster
Some still believe a win is possible. But others are wrapping their head around a Biden presidency and regretting the money they gave to Trump.

If he had taken SARS-COV-2 seriously and put scientists front and center and let them work without his interference, he would likely be headed for a big win now. He blew his best chance. Voters would have likely forgiven him for not getting everything right, he instead got everything wrong and has seriously damaged the economy.

Agree that Trump was his own worst enemy.

But there was a big field of Democrats in the race before Covid struck so he was viewed as being vulnerable. Trump had a boatload of problems already facing him so he had a pretty good headwind he was facing before Covid, including impeachment. The economy was starting to show weakness in January, before the outbreak had more than a score of infections. While Trump could have won it was far from a sure thing. Democratic enthusiasm was high so dollars likely would have poured in. Obviously, it would have been more difficult but I believe the Democrats had a slightly better than 50/50 chance of winning.

of Americans to ignore flashing hazard signs. If Trump had dealt with SARS-COV-2 even halfway competently, some of the voters who voted for him in 2016 and won’t now would have found a way to vote for him, that may have made a difference in his favor, even with the issues working against him, that you laid out well.

Backing the wrong horse is not a disaster.

Being separated from your parents and locked in a cage when you are two years old is a disaster.

Losing your wife to an infectious disease when you have three kids under ten is a disaster.

Watching your house and everything you own burn as a result of climate change is a disaster.

Fuck them and the fat orange horse they rode in on.

No, you supported him all the way, with your time, your money, your propaganda, your actions, your words.

If his supporters had seen through the smoke and mirrors, this situation would not be happening now.
But your greed and your haste to get onto the Trump gravy train, blinded you.

Yes, your guy blew it. But your 'blew it' status is much bigger, much worse.
There is no coming back for you from what is about to happen.

The Republican Congress blew it. They could've voted him out with the conviction in the Senate and none of this, the awful Covid handling, would have occurred. He would've been gone and Pence would've immediately knuckled down and done the right thing and we would've been so much better off as a country than the miserable mess we're in now with the Covid raging across our country. Thank you, YOU miserable spineless Republicans Congress.

He has been the nominal head of the Coronavirus task Force during all this. And his most notable action as Indiana governor was to cause an AIDS mini-outbreak, after all.

He would have been getting the same "the economy is our selling point" advice the Turd did. I'm not sure he would have avoided the "lie bald-facedly to put on a happy face for Wall Street" strategy that backfired so thoroughly because "the public has zero faith in the government's credibility and therefore won't send their kids back to school" turns out to be really horrible for the economy, too.

He might have avoided the "I'll give you relief funds and PPE only if your governor sucks up to me" tactic, which might have been enough to make a difference, especially with the vaunted suburban women.

... but that's all alternative history.
