I use one credit card for Amazon and pay it off every month, usually pay more than owed as a credit for the next month. Mailed the bill in 11 days before it was due and it took 12 days. Got hit with a late fee. Grrrr.

I have a feeling that they not happy with those of us that pay it off every monthly so they won't get that 10% interest.

(17,984 posts)Do the same, rounding off checks. I developed a habit of writing them the day I get them.
System, I have an antique small desk with drop down lid. If that is open that bill needs to be paid. Closed I am clear.
I do love Direct payment on monthly bills.

(32,673 posts)I love paying a little over, rounding up on my medical co-pay. I can never figure out how they figure it and it always seem to change. Last year they had to send me a check for about $150 for my overpay so they can close out their books.

(2,520 posts)Especially if it was in the mail. My wife travels for business. Sometimes were 2 weeks late, we call and they forgive it. Don't do it every month.
If you run a monthly balance, while you have them on the phone, ask them to drop your rate.

and if I don't pay by the due date they deduct the payment from my checking.

Even Amazon scares me. A few weeks ago I started getting these little computer wire connectors from Amazon. Said they a gift and billed to guess who? Me. Tossed em away and found out it was a Brushing scam. Changed my pass word and waiting for a fake call saying I owe them $700.
The last scam that got me was a online subscription to the local new paper. Took 3 calls to get them to say I was all set. Next CC bill there a couple of charges for food delivery in NY city. Had to change my card number that time and only read that paper for free at coffee shops.

(4,552 posts)As others have suggested for this specific situation you are in:
Contact the CC company and see if they can adjust. The turn around time on bills has taken quite a hit. I live in a very rural area and my mail routinely takes longer to get to me from the billing company. I used to be able to pay bills twice monthly very easily and still get the payments back in time. But, lately things are slowing with the postal service being handcuffed. And I have been digital for years with most of my bills. I still have paper bills sent to me so I can be reminded when they are due. At 66, we need these little crutches!!
In the long term, a secure internet Connection, (coupled with proper passwords and enhanced authentication methods), is your friend. Set up online bill pay and things are much easier! Keep track of your passwords offline and you are good to go. I dont like automatic bill pay because I dont like entities taking money out of my checking account without my control. There are a few instances where it is unavoidable. But, wherever possible, I decide when to pay the bill. Its very freeing!
Good luck!

(32,673 posts)My insurance for house and cars. I pretty much trust my local agent and get a statement every month. So far, so good on that.

(4,552 posts)Bill paying is a PIA. I keep bills in files and my passwords in a little journal. Everything online is password driven these days.
The one good thing about it is that the money gets to the entity much faster, and you have confirmation via emails. No waiting to see if the check cleared.
I Routinely write 2 checks a month; more if I am paying one-off bills like school tax or heating oil, etc.
Good luck!
