Why do you suppose they chose Michigan for the first Biden/Obama joint campaign appearance?

Why not PA or FL or even TX?

That was a reason Clinton lost Michigan in 2016.

And as others have pointed out, it may have something to do with this phase of the campaign being about shoring up things that are at least leaning in their column rather than working on things that are closer to toss ups.
