(29,916 posts)Now I'm willing to expect anything. There is a small chance Trump can win the EC but the odds are strongly in Biden's favor. I do agree Biden has better odds than Clinton had at this point but I won't be surprised by any outcome.

So you are actually bringing attention to them. Stop it..

(12,712 posts)A pessimist complains about the wind.
An optimist waits for it to change.
A realist adjusts the sails.
I live by that one and it works just fine.

(11,254 posts)An optimist is often disappointed where an pessimist is often pleasantly surprised. When I am feeling pessimistic, I keep the hope that I will be pleasantly surprised.

(28,188 posts)"Expect the worst--you'll never be disappointed."
If worst happens--well, you were expecting it so you should be prepared, no disappointment. If worst doesn't happen, you're better off than you expected, so that's gravy.
With Shitgibbon, I always expect the worst, and he never disappoints me. I expect nothing less on election day. But I think he's going to be the one disappointed.

(35,066 posts)He promised me there was NO WAY Hillary would lose. I held on to his words for dear life because I was so scared and, yes, panicked. It took at least 6 months for me to resume watching his show after that debacle.

(23,313 posts)It must have been a cinch, given the Bush-era read-and-write software-run tabulation machines they were using - designed by the likes of Diebold and the Uroseviches to be easily tampered with (by Repugs, for Repugs).
The prevailing attitude since then seems to be: let's not let anyone know, as it would "erode people's trust in the system."
Well meaning as that may be, that's not helping.
It's like the gambling addict juggling accounts so that the Mrs. won't find out and "lose faith" in him: it usually only leads to the problem getting worse.
Should, God willing, Joe be our next president, political reform should be second only on the agenda to a national Covid policy - and banning electronic voting/tabulation devices (as nearly all developed countries who've tried it have), priority one.

I'm sure Joe will try.

(12,712 posts)Some folks here will panic. Other's will be worrying or freaking out. The doom and gloom posts are obviously a projection of fear over something we can't control. I don't blame people for panicking since that's one way to react to it, among others.
I don't mind if people express that all here because I don't need to talk them out of it as a way to feel better vicariously. If you are calm and even minded, then it is not a big bother, but a reason to feel empathy and compassion.
I mean, consider the circumstances.
vercetti2021
(10,481 posts)But personally I wish people would relax and not worry
Newest Reality
(12,712 posts)It's nice to wish that.
Maybe some calmer responses to it might help that.

I'm sure it will be thrown to SCOTUS at some point and just hope that the justices actually do their job responsibly instead of ignoring the law to keep Republicans in power.

(22,177 posts)Outlier, folks. I can show you a bunch of Trafalgar polls that show Biden trailing damn near everywhere. I can then show you polls by other organizations, from the same time period that show Biden leading by substantial margins. Averages, folks. Averages.
Lastly, Iowa is gravy. Biden doesn't need it to win. Donnie has far more ways to loose than Biden does. He needs the planets to align perfectly once again. It ain't happening, just like I ain't winning the mega millions.

(55,100 posts)is well aware of the possible outcomes and you are probably more prepared than you think you are. I know what you mean though. I read the ending of a book first...so I can figure out what is going to happen and not be in for a shock and I like to know the endings of movies too. If I am watching one on TV I Google it and read the plot, especially the end, then I watch the film. I don't like emotionally draining and surprising conclusions.

(7,892 posts)just concerned about our future, that is all.
The ones that are panicking are the Republicans, the ones dressed up as if they are going to war, sitting in their truck beds, waving the Trump flags.
It's an election, guys, not the start of a war. So chill, ok?
And if you really want to start a war, just remember there are plenty of legally sanctioned people out there who know that guns don't just make scary noises. Easy to recognize, they tend to wear police and army uniforms. And they know how to shoot straight.

(28,264 posts)You have no idea what any given individual may be going through. You don't know if someone has an anxiety disorder or other issue. You don't know what an individual's personal stake might be.
You have no idea what each of us is doing to try to cope. You're basically just lecturing a bunch of strangers about how they should manage their inner lives.
And your tone is so patronizing that it may simply add to someone's stress level.
I'll tell you one way that I've been coping. That's by putting overly annoying posters on Ignore. I'm just about to the point that I will no longer be able to see your sage advice. Oh my what a loss that would be.😱
vercetti2021
(10,481 posts)I try to be as helpful and comforting as possible. And yeah do I know how people feel? I can sense it. I have big time anxiety, I have depression.
I never once gave off a tone of patronizing anyone other than to tell people to relax.
I know what's at stake as a transgender person. I know the goddamn stake and you coming and telling me im lecturing people strangers? No these people here are not strangers to me. They are my friends that I see always in constant worry and I want them to just take a step back and breath.
You wanna ignore me? Feel free. I won't lose any sleep over it. If anything you are the one coming off rude to me like I screamed at you
