Ive donated pretty often this year. More than ever before but I decided I was done last week. The emails in particular lately have taken on serious scare tactics. I already decided I was done but the more recent ones certainly wouldnt inspire me even if I was still willing. Do those tactics work on anyone?

(19,754 posts)It's so much more likely to engage me if it is like "we're fighting really hard for you... but this is really tough... we need your help to win... if you can give anything it would make a big difference... help us help you and everyone else... yadda yadda"

(63,221 posts)And insulted. I have deleted all of them. I have already made a lot of contributions but I am done.
It's getting out of control and it's turning people off. They need to know when to back down. The more they text and email the more unimpressed I get. I will vote for them, but I am not giving any more money.
They beg me for more money the day after I make a contribution, and I have made a lot of contributions. But at this point, it is just getting obnoxious. I'm done. And their aggressive approach is not doing them any favors.

(13,077 posts)mind, do my own research on who to give to. And then I pick one or two people per election cycle and give a few hundred to each and that's it. This election cycle I only gave to one person, Theresa Greenfield, $2,000, running against Joni Ernst for U.S. Senate from Iowa. Cuts down on the bookkeeping and effort a lot.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
