It is not a problem and Dems should be out doing it.
I have been canvassing for city council candidates and 80% of the doors knocked open. I have on a mask, I move back from the door 12 feet and they always chat with me. I am safe, they are safe. It is not an issue.

(7,715 posts)At least for me, anything that needs to be said can be done via email, a call, or a text.
It sure doesn't look like it has hurt the Ds. Let's see on Tuesday night.

(7,715 posts)I really don't want anyone except my nuclear family in our house or yard unless required. I can deal with a required maintenance worker, but not a political (or religious) canvasser.
But then again, I'm a die-hard forever D!

(4,845 posts)I had no problem to open my door and chat with them. He stepped back while chatting and he had a mask on. I kept my screen door close though. And I didn't take any paper from him, since I knew where my early voting station is at.

(4,845 posts)since he has to go door to door and assume more risk than me. Though, I noticed they picked younger volunteers for it so their risk are lower.

(937 posts)It is beautiful weather here now so a lot of people have their door open with just the screen door shut. We will say Yoo Hoo if we see someone. We have masks and back up. People have voted or have plans to vote. I would like to report a strong turnout from people whos homes smell strongly of marijuana. Legal marijuana is on the ballot.

I am glad you concur about canvassing. It is supper safe.
Plus, there is nothing like door to door for GOTV. I was knocking for city council and tagged onto it is GOTV.
I highly recommend it.

(34,069 posts)Remember - the Rose Garden super spreader event was outdoors, too.
It is probably not extremely risky, but probably more risky than grocery shopping since I don't wear my mask inside my house. I probably would not put one on to answer the door becuase I would be expecting a drop and run delivery (not an extended conversation). I would not be happy to find encounter someone there who expected an extended chat.
I don't consider in person canvassing important enough to justify the risk it involves.

(7,383 posts)We have had a large group of canvassers working on it for weeks!
The effort is so significant for city council, houses have been canvassed 2 and 3 times!!!
We mean business!

(50,269 posts)knocking on the door to canvas at the moment. I solved the problem by making a patriotic sign telling anyone who happens to come around that we're voting for Biden/Harris and to please not knock. Someone knocked yesterday and I figured it must be a Trumphumper canvasser who would ignore the sign and I was all prepared to let them have it, but it was the post office delivery lady with a late arriving package of insulin. Mea culpa - LOL. I thanked her profusely. We have great postal workers here.

(50,269 posts)Apparently it was most likely from an improperly positioned injection and not the vaccine itself. I don't want to scare anyone away from getting it. Just be mindful of who gives it to you. Overworked pharmacists not good.

(5,164 posts)Only needed service people have entered the house and the last two have been problematic. I debated putting a sign up which says no soliciting/ canvassing etc. of any type, fortunately it hasn't been needed.

(11,605 posts)I've gone door to door in Pennsylvania every presidential election since I turned 18 and I really wanted to do it this year too, but my mom won't let me stay with her because she's worried about exposure, and at 7 months pregnant I don't think I can sleep on the couch at my brother's place. Plus, my feet are too swollen to walk more than a few blocks anyway. So I'm staying here in New York and trying to do my part by helping to staff voter protection hotlines. But it breaks my heart not to be able to canvass in Philadelphia like I usually do.
