Law enforcement has a saying to the effect that LW terrorists blow up empty buildings, RW blow up people. But when's the last LW terrorism we can remember?

terrorism is higher than I'd expected.

Left-wing terrorism was fairly common in the sixties and seventies, but like you say, they were more inclined to damage property, not people. I can't think of any examples in recent years, though the actions of anarchists are sometimes blamed on liberals. Even then, so called "anarchists" often turn out to be right-wing extremists trying to make liberals look bad.

Fifty years later, republicans are still trying to paint Democrats as violent extremists. They really need a new playbook.

28. Yes, that and the source is why I remember it. The context was

in discussion of violent domestic terrorist acts.

I was there in the 1960s too. I remember all the media hype of LW terrorism among scary militant black men and dangerous revolutionaries produced by our subversive liberal universities.

It's as you say: A common media theme, and not an innocent one, was and is that liberalism is the birthplace of militant black activists -- and of militant LW revolutionaries, including Rubio's "socialist" democracy-smashers. Not hardly. Many members, and leaders, of groups considered LW because they claim to fight for equality instead of inequality were angry hard-core conservatives who behaved according to their natures.

Those had far more in common with their counterparts in far-right white supremacist groups than with those, like John Lewis, who fought even more determinedly for equality, but were committed to peaceful progress, from within the centers of power.

That very old violent black extremists bullshit. Remember when republicans got all bent out of shape because there were two Black Panthers at the polls last time? There is still a misleading stigma about the Black Panthers and any black protest group. The image such a narrative creates never matches the reality, but republicans continue to use it because it works with their base.

Vox, April 2015: "The group doesn't do much, but it gets more media coverage than just about any other hate group."

I had to search to find out what happened to them, the so-called New Black Panther Party. Still don't know. No news these days -- about THEM. Last May the Family Research Council/Tony Perkins successfully used their name to demonize another group's voter registration efforts.

Otherwise, the NPLC has an old entry for a minor group of RW black extremists with the usual RW hates, their versions almost without difference. They had done some bad things and had a leadership fracture, with a few splintering away as the New Black Panther Party For Self Defense.

Interesting that these little groups are doing so poorly in this era when anger is in the air and RW white hate groups sprout up everywhere like toxic mushrooms.

And making society work for more people is hardly socialism, but any efforts to make government function for more than just the over-rich seems to set off nitwits like Sen. Rubio.
